Doug is a difficult person to try to fully convey in words. He had many admirable qualities. He was very accomplished, and by his own efforts. He remained a very down to earth man who was full of life and had an inspiring energy with a wonderful sense of humour, a quick wit, and an obvious intelligence. He also had a caring, compassionate and generous nature. He knew how to stand up for what he believed in and could be formidable in his pursuit of what was right. He can be described as a great soul, he seemed larger than he was, but he didn't let ego blemish his character. He will be remembered by a great many people who consider themselves privileged to have known him and who will consider themselves better people from that association. He would go out of his way, with no thought of reward, to help people. I still think of him when something triggers a memory and it inevitably brings a smile to my face. Having known him has made me a better man in that he showed me an example of someone who succeeded materially as well as socially in life, but did it without losing his principles and keeping his genuine humanity. His spirit will live on in those that he has inspired to be better. He was taken from us far too early and I dearly hope that he is in a better place. Wherever he is, it is a better place for having his presence.

Still think of you all the time, Doug. You are in my heart forever and on the rock I painted in your memory at my gate. You had the most compassionate heart and loved dogs and your family. A life well led.

Dear Angela and family,
Doug was a wonderful and kind man who brought us all great joy. We loved seeing you with him. In turn, Doug reveled in being a part of your Italian family - wine and sausages come to mind. And he was so happy to be able to have Ruby and Lily as part of your family. He will be greatly missed. We send our sincerest condolences and have you in our thoughts.

Doug - a total class-act; such a gentleman - and a magnificent neighbour who was always ready to help, with a golden smile forever etched upon his kind face...I still can't believe you're gone, but you won't soon be forgotten... blessings to Angela, and may they provide lots of strength through this terribly rough time. Rest in peace, dearest Doug, albeit, way, way too soon.......

Our hearts ache for you and your extended family. We grieve with you and share your loss. Doug was truly a great man. Perhaps more than many, we know the depth of his kindness and compassion for others. He accepted our unique family into his home and heart. We can only hope that with time, you can heal knowing that his suffering is over. As with you, he will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
We are sending you our love and sincere condolences,

Angela and Family: Our thoughts are with you at this trying time. Doug left us all too early, but I am glad to have known him not only as a coworker but also a friend. After we both retired we kept up that friendship and Doug joined our monthly coffee group. He always had lots to say and never missed an opportunity to add his brand of humour creating perspective. We admired his energy and could see how caring he was to those that needed his attention. I am saddened by his loss but I am thankful to have known him. His memory will live on in all who have met him.
