I met Doug over 35 years ago and had the opportunity to work alongside him for a while. . When he arrived at the group home , the clients would all rally around to say “Hello, Sir” ( their term of endearment). He would pretend to be the Swedish Chef in the kitchen and on St. Patrick's Day put green food coloring in the mashed potatoes. Doug wanted the guys to be at their best and encouraged their autonomy. He made a huge difference in their lives. Out of work Doug was a kind and giving person. I remember when I hurt my back and was house bound he brought me some groceries and made me a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of tea. Once when we babysat a friend's eight month old twins together I remember how tenderly he handled them, gently wiping their little faces and cuddling them. An intelligent man Doug also enjoyed a good conversation on current events and politics, always being up to date on the latest.news.
My condolences to the family.

I was saddened to learn of Doug's passing. We were classmates at WMHS and I always remeber him as a light hearted upbeat individual. I was looking forward to the reunion in the hopes of visiting once again but unfortunately he was unable to attend. Doug was a wonderful person and my sincere condolences to his family. I know he will be missed by a lot of people.

I am saddened at the news of Doug's passing. We worked together many moons ago at The Gary Taylor Centre. With a kind smile, and always ready for a good laugh, he brought heart wherever he went. My sincerest sympathies to Doug's family and close friends.

Doug was my best friend. He shared all the major events of my life. He was my family when I did not have one and he became part of our family when I did. He gave my children his undivided attention, his playfulness, his sense of wonder and curiosity. He helped my husband Lorne and I raise our sons and brought such joy and laughter into their lives.
He was a good man. Generous with his time, his help and his heart. When he worked with the intellectually handicapped he was able to relate to them in a way that they knew they were loved and respected and they adored him for it. There was always lots of fun and laughter when Doug.was at work....he made their world a happier place.
He made my world a happier place too,I can hear his laugh, I can see his smile and he will always be in my heart.
My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I have so many wonderful memories of "uncle Doug" from my childhood. I remember him babysitting and helping put together a sandbox in our backyard, he was a big part of my childhood and I was very sad to hear of his passing.

Doug, or Uncle Doug as I called him, was basically part of the family while I was growing up. We used to play board games, which we would always let me or my brothers win, which nurtured a love of board games that is still going strong. When I was curious about something, Doug would help me find the answer, often by helping me to experiment and figure it out for myself. He was a great friend, and a huge influence on me. My sincere condolences to the family, he will be deeply missed.

To Doug's family,
My fondest memories of Doug were at the cottage in the Eastern Townships where we all would go on long weekends. A bunch of friends, just having a good time. Doug was such fun to be with, a truly nice man.
My condolences for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Simpson family at this time. My late husband Jim and I shared many great weekends in townships and countless parties in town when we were all young and had not a care in the world...he was a great guy; kind, thoughtful, unassuming and always very sympathetic to those less fortunate. If most of us had qualities like that, then we wouldn't have so many problems these days!!

Doug, it was always a pleasure to discuss with you about politics and all other subjects. You were certainly well versed in many fields and very erudite.
We will miss you.

Our sympathies to Doug's family and friends. I remember him fondly from high school and later when we travelled together on the train into Montreal to attend our separate universities. We missed him at the WMHS reunion in May, but he was in our thoughts, nonetheless.

I have very fond memories of Doug from my childhood. He was friends with my parents and always made a point to spend time with me when he came over. Doug gave me one of my favorite books as a child that I've kept all these years, and have since shared with my boys and told them about the man that gave it to me who used to call me 'Ricardo Perkinini the Italian Sailor'. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this difficult time.
