DOUGLAS WATKINSON

WATKINSON, Douglas Dabney, departed this life Sunday, January 24, 2010. Born in Richmond, Va., her entire life was dedicated to her family, as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was the daughter of Virginius and Douglas Dabney, and leaves her husband of 56 years, James S. Watkinson. She is also survived by four children, James D. Watkinson and his wife, Patricia, Kathleen Watkinson Ivins and her husband, John, Sarah D. Watkinson, and Robert F. Watkinson and his wife, Marianne; seven grandchildren, Michael, Tracey and James Watkinson, Jack and Jim Ivins, Catherine Sowards and Virginia Edmiston; and one great-grandchild, Leiland Watkinson. She is also survived by a brother, Richard Heath Dabney II; and was predeceased by her sister, Lucy D. Leverty. She was a graduate of Stuart Hall and Bradford College, and was a member of The Junior League, The Woman's Club, Colonial Dames, The Country Club of Virginia, and her beloved Book Club. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Avenue. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 28, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. The interment will be private. The family wishes to express its special thanks to Douglas' caregivers in the Health Care Unit at Westminster Canterbury, as well as Bon Secours Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1600 Willow Lawn Dr., Richmond, Va. 23230, or to the Health Care Fund - Westminster Canterbury, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227.
