Dr. Anna May (Newton) Klippel

Today is National Women Physicians's Day and on a whim I googled Dr. Newton and see that she passed away last year. She was a role model to all physicians - extremely knowledgeable, confident, and pragmatic. My husband and I were her patients until she retired and both recall her very fondly and aver that we will NEVER have another doctor like her. We miss her to this day. God bless, Dr. Newton, our paths will cross again.

Your mother and father were instrumental in my life. I am 63 today and have been a missionary for over 30 yrs in Africa And Guatemala.

Your father saved my life in 1960 with stomach surgery after an accident and again in 1966 after I was in a terrible fire.

Your parents were extraordinary people

Late in 1964, after delivering a baby in Toledo, Ohio, the baby again returned to the hospital a short while after. Immediately after she saw the baby, she grabbed him from his mother's arms and took him into the hospital. She knew the baby had spinal meningitis. While they waited for the test results to come back from Chicago, she had me injected with everything they had in Toledo' to save my life. And she did. She did save my life. Other children in the hospital also had the disease at the same time but where not so lucky as I. I had on my bucket list to come to meet Dr. Newton. To say thank you and just sit with her and talk. This wonderful woman brought me into the world, signed my birth certificate, and just a few weeks later saved my life. God Bless you Dr. Newton. Captain Daniel Adams-Arman, US Army, Toledo Ohio.

I had the distinct pleasure and honor of caring for Anna May a couple of years ago while she lived at The Health Center at The Willows. I was in nursing school at the time and she took particular interest in my studies and what was being taught in schools nowadays. She was a firecracker of a woman and I adored her. I didn't hear about her passing until recently and I am thankful to have had the time with her that I did.

I was born 4 months early back in 1973, and she is the reason I survived. I love her, and miss her. Love you Dr. Anna-May, I miss you.

Dr. Anna May was the best. My parents adopted me and I don't think they were totally sold until Anna May put her stamp of approval on me. She cared for my folks and us kids for a long time (until we weren't kids anymore) and she set the bar for any physician we might see in our lives. I've though about her many times since she retired and my family speaks of she and Charlie fondly. She pulled no punches and told no lies, and she did it all for our good!

Dr. Anna Mae delivered both my brother and I. 1962 and 1964. 6 years later our mom became pregnant again at the age of 29 and Anna Mae gave our mom heck. She said "you already have a boy and a girl, what more do you want?" I can still picture her leaning on one arm on the examining table as she listened intently to what was ailing us. A few years ago while in the ER at Bay Park Community Hospital I was treated by a Dr. Newton. Of course I had to ask if she was related. She said her yes her husband is. I have thought of her often over the years. RIP Anna Mae. You will never be forgotten.

She saved my grandmother's life many years ago when my grandmother's doctor dropped the ball. We were forever grateful to her for the care and compassion she showed my grandmother. I was also a patient of hers for a short time.

Dr. Anna May was a no nonsense, but yet empathetic doctor. Wish there were more like her today. She looked over us until we moved to Florida in 84 & her husband did 2 surgeries on my son. What a team. They are both missed greatly in Toledo.

Dr. Anna May was a caring MD and great lady of healing for many of my family members. I enjoyed talking to her as she cared for my family, friends & children for many years. To a life well lived, rest in peace. Pam Jankowski

Anna May & Charlie were a dynamic couple, both devoted to serving others. Alice & her brother took such good care of their parents, & the grandchildren brought Anna May & Charlie so much joy. Altogether, you are an exceptional family.

What a great woman she was. I was her first baby, delivered at Saint Luke's, and years later she delivered my first child at Saint Luke's. I loved her lopsided mouth and that delightful laugh that would emit from it. Thanks for the medical care, but more, for the example of a strong woman in a strong marriage living a strong life.

In the early 1950s, I recall Anna May making house calls to our home whenever needed. I can still see her walking up to the house with her black bag. After my marriage, Anna May was our family doctor, beginning in 1958 when our son was born. Our family held her in the highest esteem, and even in these later years have often thought of her. We had occasion to need the services of your dad also, and had the highest regard for him. How thankful you must be to have had such wonderful parents. We feel so fortunate to have had the benefit of their professional expertise. They remain in our fondest memories.

Without Dr. Anna Mae I wouldn't be alive. She delivered me 59 years ago in 1956. After a very difficult pregnancy she promised my Dad she would do everything in her power to give my parents a healthy baby. And, she did. Many many many years later she still had my baby picture on her office wall. Rest in peace Dr. Anna Mae!!

Have fond memories of both your mom and dad who were fine physicians and a credit to their profession.

My life started because of your grandfather F.H. Newton. My mother had a miscarriage first and F.H. (I always thot it was Frank not Francis) said he would get my mother through a second pregnancy. When severe morning sickness started again, he put my mother on a diet of beer and popcorn. The theory being that the food benefit came from the beer and the popcorn held it down. Mom never liked beer, but it worked. I enjoy telling this to today's doctors. I was born 12-31-33 in Robinwood Lutheran Hospital (my initials). As a young boy I remember going to the Newton home, just off of Potomac Drive in Toledo. My mother Edna was appointed by your grandmother Alice to work on serious charitable committees. Anna May took over as our doctor, years later when F.H. retired.

When I married Marilyn in 1957, Anna May became our family doctor. She brought our two girls into this world and she was our doctor until she retired. Charles was our doctor as well. Anna May was also the family doctor for my Grandparents until their passing. Anna May was also the family doctor to our sister-in law and she brought our niece into this world. So you see we have had a wonderful history with your folks and you have much to be proud of as I am sure you are aware.

Anna May was my doctor from 1962 to her leaving her practice. I loved that lady she was an excellent doctor. Gave me hell when I needed it

Thank you for all your dedication to life and community- met her briefly - but will always remember him for emergency surgery he did on my 5 week old baby on Christmas Eve in 1970. Often remembered them

Oh, how I remember the big house where her offices stood at 2301 Collingwood Ave. What a beautiful historic home; long gone now. I can still remember the creak of that huge wood and glass door when we entered into the offices. She delivered me in 1956 at the old St. Luke's Hospital on Robinwood. Her husband did surgery on me when I was just 9 years old and scared to death. She was a wonderful doctor and I will never forget her. My condolences to family on the loss of a beautiful soul.

Your mother and father gave me the most valuable gift on earth, my daughter angela. They were the best Drs ever in our area and I loved your mother like my own. I often thought about her after they left Toledo. You have my deepest sympathy and prayers

Dear Alice and Charlie and families:
Your mother (and father) left many lovely memories for our family. One that stands out for me is when she was a chaperone for our Girl Scout troop on an excursion to New York City around 1967. She was so broadly knowledgeable and vibrant and witty that her presence is my brightest memory of the trip. Thank you for treasuring her so well through all of her years, as she did you.
