Dr. James Vandenberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2022.

Dr. James G. Vandenberg, of Boca Raton, FL, entered into eternal life on November 21, 2022, at the age of 93. He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, the love of his life Marilyn Gerlach Vandenberg; his children, Jerri (Barry) Sendach, Jeffery (Gretchen) Vandenberg, Victoria (Patrick) Naulleau; granddaughters, Laurel and Taylor Sendach, Leia and Hana Naulleau; sister, Elizabeth (Jack) Emery; brother, Richard Vandenberg; and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Peter Vandenberg.

Dr. Vandenberg graduated from Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, MO, and served two years in the Army Medical Corps. In 1957, he entered into practice with his brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Gerlach, in East Rochester, NY, where their partnership flourished for 38 years. Dr. "Van" was an active member of District 15 of the NY Chiropractic Association in Rochester, NY, serving as president and in many other positions. He was a longtime member of The American Chiropractic Association, served on the NY Board of Chiropractic Examiners, and was a devoted charter member of the LOW Church. After enjoying 23 years of retirement with family and friends, he and Marilyn moved to Boca Raton, FL, in 2019, to be closer to family.

Jim loved God, his family, his many friends, and his profession. He was a passionate fisherman and golfer and enjoyed boating on Sodus Bay and the many beautiful Finger Lakes. His optimistic spirit, loving nature, sense of humor, and appreciation for all that life gave him will be missed beyond measure but fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A private memorial service will be held in Boca Raton with the final interment at a later date in White Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, Pittsford, NY. In his memory, Jim asks you to perform a random act of kindness.

Missing Jim's smile and ready wit at the lunch group we once had. Sing a few lines from "That old gang of mine"

We have a whole lifetime of wonderful memories shared with Jim and Marilyn. The first thing that comes to mind is boating on Lake Ontario across to Canada - Kingston, Brockville, Belleville, and sheltering from 8 foot waves in Main Duck's Schoolhouse Cove. Then the countless functions with the chiropractors in our district - the box lunches in the Smith's barn, the picnics at the Schmelzle's pond, the Christmas parties. And who can forget the hilarious euchre parties where we got in all of 3 games in about 6 hours! All these memories came flooding back when we heard of Jim's passing. We will sorely miss him and send our deepest condolences to Marilyn and his children and grandchildren. Carol and Mike Lamendola
