Dr. Paul P. Popov

With sorrow I learn of the passing of Pavel Petrovich Popov. I learned Russian independently in HS. At UGA, I sat in on Dr. Popov´s RUS 101 class and he kindly allowed me to take and pass his final exam. He accorded me academic credit for RUS 101. Under him I completed 45 hours of Russian, more than a major. My grades were not exactly Phi Beta Kappa, but when I returned to UGA some years later, Pavel Petrovich seemed flabbergasted , how very much Russian I still retained! I will not forget his kindness and hope to remember what he taught me. I applaud his simultaneous embrace of Russian heritage and American values and send condolences to his family.
