Dr. Raymond Sullivan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 25, 2025.
Eastham - Dr. Raymond Aloysius Sullivan, beloved husband of Jeanne Carole (Berard) Sullivan passed away peacefully at home on Cape Cod surrounded by family on September 22, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne, sons, Raymond Michael Sullivan (Michelle Worthington Sullivan), Brendan Walter Sullivan, and Timothy Brian Sullivan (Cai Gillis Sullivan), daughter, Kathleen Sullivan Kalill (Peter Michael Kalill), and grandchildren Violet (Fox) Kalill and Jack Fowler.

Dr. Sullivan was born December 22, 1939 in Lowell, MA to Raymond and Marguerite Sullivan. He is survived by his sister Ellen Strain and brother Neil Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his brothers Quentin, Brendan and Brian Sullivan.

Dr. Sullivan was a renowned orthopedic surgeon at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton. He served as President of the medical staff for two years and as Chief of the Division of Orthopedic Surgery from 1984 until his retirement. Dr. Sullivan was on the medical staff at Tufts Medical Center where he mentored countless surgeons beginning their careers. He served as the team physician for Boston State College. He earned many honors during his esteemed career but was most proud of having won the nurse's award for "best buns in the operating room."

While Dr. Sullivan found his calling in orthopedics, his career path began at seminary school with plans to become a priest. His Catholic faith was strong throughout his life.

Dr. Sullivan served as a Major in the United States Army from 1973 to 1975 as a stateside doctor at Fort Lee, VA.

After retiring from orthopedics, Dr. Sullivan was not one to rest on his laurels. He took on a new adventure trying his hand as a crew member of a deep sea fishing vessel where he became close friends with the Captain, Brian Sweeney, who would quickly become part of his family.

Dr. Sullivan loved the Patriots, grilling, appreciating the sunset, and soaking in every ounce of life with his family and friends. His dry humor and lively smile brightened every room and his skilled surgical hands dramatically improved lives. He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren as they did him. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He will be looking down and smiling with his family and friends for every clam bake and Pats touchdown.
