Dr. Timothy Craven Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 6, 2024.
Dr. Timothy "Tim" John Craven passed away June 3rd 2024 in Hillsboro, Oregon after a brief illness. Tim was born to Dr. James and Marian Craven on August 20, 1950, in Portland, Oregon. He attended St. Ignatius Grade School, Jesuit High School, and Portland State University.

In 1973 Tim enrolled in medical school at University of Oregon Medical School (now OHSU). He graduated in 1977 and practiced family medicine and occupational medicine for over 45 years, primarily in Oregon and Washington.

He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed biking and kayaking. His family fondly remembers the hiking and camping trips to the Columbia Gorge and Oregon coast that he organized. He was also a history buff and was especially well-read on presidential history.

Tim married the love of his life, Martha, in 1972 and had three children: Ellyn, Elizabeth (Eric Brine), and Matthew Craven (Rebecca). Tim also took great pride in the role of grandfather to his two grandchildren, Samuel and Emma Biedscheid.

Tim is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren; siblings Patricia Joyce (John), Sheila Riehl (Peter), Michael Craven (Sue), Pete Craven (Morag), and Richard Sanvitale (spouse to his sister Joan); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In his immediate family, Tim was preceded in death by his Mother and Father; his sisters Kathleen Craven, Judith Hirning, and Joan Sanvitale; and his brother Douglas Craven.

A Funeral Mass for Tim will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Lake Oswego, Oregon, on Monday June 17, 2024, at 11am. Interment will be in Gethsemani Catholic Cemetery in Happy Valley, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blanchet House (https://blanchethouse.org/donate/), an organization that Tim supported during his life.

Of all his siblings, Tim had the smile and chuckle so much like his dad, Dr. James P. I don't know how he was as a doctor, but I know he was a good son, a loyal brother, a loving father and a Great cousin.

So sorry to hear this, Martha and family. We had lost touch, but I have fond memories of Tim from our time together as colleagues in Salem. I also remember a backpack the two of us took to Jefferson Park. We were caught in a storm and both suffered mild hypothermia. My condolences.

He was an older brother to Doug, Mike and Pete. Don't think he wanted much to do w/us, the gang that hung out at their house.

He rolled his eyes a lot at our friend gatherings with Doug, Mike and Pete at their house.

Going to neighborhood parties with Tim and Martha, they were our first friends after we moved to Oregon. One memory is all of us laughing and dancing together. It was always a fun time.
