Dr. William ("Bill") Kenneth Power, age 72, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 at Southern Ocean Medical Center, Manahawkin, NJ. Like a thief, Alzheimer's Disease stole his life swiftly and far too early.

Born in Trenton, NJ, Bill was born to William and Gladys Power. While on a clinical rotation at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ, Bill met his wife, Carol (Smith), a nursing student. They married in 1982.

Bill graduated from Princeton Day School and Lake Forest College. He obtained his medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and UMDNJ. He completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Jersey Shore Medical Center and a fellowship in Critical Care Medicine at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. He practiced Critical Care with the Guthrie Clinic in Horseheads, NY until 1993.

Missing his family and the beach, Bill returned to the Jersey Shore and eventually settled on Long Beach Island. He established an Internal Medicine practice in Forked River, NJ and became board certified in Geriatric Medicine. He was affiliated with Southern Ocean Medical Center and was the director of its Transitional Care Unit. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Bill's most treasured professional accolade was being awarded the "Nurses Choice Physician of the Year" at Southern Ocean Medical Center. After an esteemed 38 year career, he retired in 2020.

Bill was a member of the Rotary Club of Long Beach Island, the Stafford Historical Society and the Trenton Cyrus Masonic Lodge #5. He attended many Boy Scout events with his sons; once volunteering as a physician with the National Boy Scout Jamboree. Bill was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and traveled with his children and the youth groups on several mission trips.

Bill was a voracious reader, especially of science fiction. He was a proud card-carrying member of the "Dr. Who" Fan Club of America. He regularly walked the beach and body surfed. He was very proficient at sporting clays. His interests ranged from technology to biking and hiking, art and theatre, traveling, cooking, and making a good cup of coffee.

Bill's greatest joy was spending time and traveling with his beloved family.

Bill was predeceased by his son, James Henry Power in 2016. He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter Kristin Power (Christian Kaszas), and son William Power III (Meredith Sisson). "Pop-Pop" will be missed dearly by his grandchildren, Sebastian James Kaszas, Effie Grace and William Henry Power. He also leaves his sister, Joy Power (Allan Eaglesham); sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Chuck Merritt; cousins Marie Power-Barnes (Ken Barnes) and Caroline Gangl; with their families, niece Amanda Cornwell, nephews Ryan and Jason Merritt, and his nurse practioner of 26 years, Patty Christensen.

The family expresses gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of Southern Ocean Medical Center who helped bring peace to Bill while on hospice. They also wish to thank the team at Penn Memory Center, the local Hackensack Meridian Health support groups, Regency Dementia Care Club, his companion/caregiver Carolyn Rulli, and their dear family and friends for their unwavering support and comaraderie over recent years.

Memorial contributions can be made to: the Penn Memory Center https://pennmemorycenter.org/gifts/donate, Rotary Club of Long Beach Island, or the Jetty Rock Foundation.
