| Send Sympathy Card CARNEAL, Drew St. John, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 25, 2015, after a short illness. Drew was born in Manhattan on November 12, 1938 and grew up in Bronxville, N.Y., spending his summers at Eagle Point, a family farm in Gloucester, Va., with his brother, George. After graduating from Princeton and the University of Virginia's law school, Drew moved to Richmond in 1963, where he practiced law with Cabell, Moncure & Carneal. In 1985, he left the firm to become City Attorney for the city of Richmond. After a productive stint at the city, Drew became Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Owens & Minor, Inc., from which he retired in 2003. Drew adored the city of Richmond, particularly the Fan District, and spent much of his adult life researching its history, homes, alleyways, byways, parks, and its innumerable nooks and crannies. In 1996, the fruit of his passion and labor was realized when he published Richmond's Fan District, a book that has become the definitive text on a neighborhood widely considered to be one of the premiere historic neighborhoods in the United States.
