Darlene - I am so sorry I missed this until now. You may not remember me, but I was a trooper at Bridgeport from 1978-88, and the photographer that took Duane’s portrait – and Jill’s wedding (1984?). I don't think I've ever met a finer man. He greatly influenced my career with the Michigan State Police, and represented everything good about our department. I hope you and the rest of your family are well, and offer my most sincere condolences.

I have such fond memories of Duane as a neighbor. Caring, soft spoken, generous & fun. Although we weren’t neighbors for long, I’ve always respected & remembered him. So sorry for your loss.

I had the privilege of working under Lt. Gert for a number of years at the Bridgeport Post. He had a quiet form of leadership that garnered the respect of nearly everyone. Open minded, thoughtful and fair he was a pleasure to work for. He was especially generous with Darlene’s fantastic “butter horns” at Christmas time. Your watch is now over Lieutenant, May you Rest In Peace!

I knew Duane through the Frankenmuth Optimist Club and always found him to be an interesting person to talk to. He had a humble spirit and was always willing to help with whatever the need was. I appreciated his wisdom and certainly appreciated his service to our state. I pray God’s peace and comfort to you, his family.
