I have just learned of Duane's passing and am so very sad. He will be sorely missed. "Spacedoc" was a bigger than life presence and staunch advocate for finding answers to the dilemma of statin intolerance. I had the great honor of assisting him in this quest. My deepest condolences to his wife, Suzanne, and, of course, to Pepe.

Dr Graveline helped me enormously when my Dad was severely affected by the use of Statins. I only knew Dr Graveline through correspondence but his kind and caring personality was evident in his replies. I sincerely hope that others in the medical profession will continue his work to bring an end to this mass medicating of so many people whose lives are not being improved by the use of statins but are actually developing a myriad of other serious health problems. My condolences to Dr Graveline's family. Rest in peace, Doc.

The sadness of our loss is only offset by the knowledge that Duane has passed into the final frontier where he will remain immortal because of his special contributions to humanity. He was courageous and the knowledge he brought to open minded cardiologists and physicians as well as the general public will result in saving more lives than the ingestion of statin drugs will have ever done. Thank you Duane, and God Bless You.

I am truly sorry to hear of Dr. Graveline's passing. Although I have only known him through his online postings about statin side effects, I feel he has been a friend who validated what I myself went through with those drugs. He will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear the news about Duane. I never met 'Space Doc', but felt as if I knew him because I would receive emails from him almost every day. Duane was one of the most active members of thincs (The International Network of Cholesterol Skeptics) and his emails were always warm, passionate, energetic and positive. I was so impressed with this given that statins all but destroyed Duane's life and yet he never showed any bitterness - just a great drive and passion to let other people know that statins could have serious effects on mind and memory. Thincs will be poorer for Duane no longer being part of our daily chatter and information sharing. Suzanne and other family members will miss Duane even more than we will and my heart goes out to you all. Very best wishes - Zoe Harcombe

I will be forever grateful for Doc Graveline...for pushing back against Big Pharma and statin drugs. I found Spacedoc many years ago, after developing severe peripheral neuropathy due to Red Yeast Rice...over the years, I followed that site, as well as purchasing his books...and then, when my own neuropathy began to worsen, eight years later, I talked with Doc, who urged me to get evaluated for ALS...which, after months of testing, I was finally diagnosed with. In the last year of his life, he supported me with great suggestions. I also participated in his dolichol study, which turned out to be useful to me. Doc, thank you for turning me into a crusader for helping people better understand statins!!! You will be missed by many!

Thank you Dr. Graveline for being on the internet. My husband was put on a statin and became sick, couldn't get out of his chair. I went on Google and found your link and I knew what was wrong with him. I immediately made him stop taking it. He refused any cholesterol medicine after that. I loved your news emails. God Bless You!

I never met Dr. Graveline, but knew him through his website and books. I had started to research statins when I came across his work. I had just been prescribed a statin drug.
Because of Dr. Graveline's work, among that of other researchers, I told my doctor about concerns I had with the statin drugs. We had a long talk. Finally, I asked him if there was an imaging technology that would reveal whether my cardiac arteries were getting clogged or not. He recommended a CT scan for calcium (evidently arterial plaque eventually calcifies). I paid out of my own pocket for the imaging procedure and scored a big fat zero. I told my doctor that I was through with the statins. He could hardly argue.
I am grateful to have this opportunity to share with Dr. Graveline's family and associates my appreciation for his work. I hope that these comments at least partly compensate for my oversight in waiting too long to thank him.

I have to thank Dr. Graveline for the enormous benefit he gave to the world regarding knowledge about damage from statin drugs. Without his continued research, writing, and combing through adverse effect records, I would never have learned about why I was experiencing such debilitating muscle and joint pain, and after six years of being on Lipitor why I had cognitive degradation. Dr. Graveline has my eternal gratitude for his perseverance and deep compassion for fellow sufferers from statin drug use. Dr. Duane Graveline is a True Hero to me. Thank you for everything!

We have lost a great human being, Doctor and advocate. I was diagnosed with bi-lateral neurothopy of an unknown cause by my Neurologist. It's because of Doc that I looked up the statin drug I had been on for 4 years and stopped it immediately. I was unable to move my left ankle or any of my toes at all. In 1 week I could move my ankle and all 5 toes ! My appreciation to Doc and his family for sharing this hero's story and may he rest in peace. I'm sure Doc is up there telling God to get off the statins as well ! We were blessed to have this hero here for us...

So sad that Doc Graveline has passed. I have followed his blog for years and have to fight with doctors to refuse statin treatment for cholesterol. I have witnessed first hand some of the side effects and thank Doc for his work in uncovering how this drug does more damage than good. RIP Doc.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Doc and Suzanne on my honeymoon of all places! Wonderful couple and wonderful work! Because of Doc my Dr keeps pushing me to take statin drugs but I have refused each time! Thank you Doc for your amazing work. Suzanne, I still have my Pepe mitt too. My thoughts and prayers go out to you Suzanne.

I had the great fortune to attend a presentation by Dr. Graveline at the Satellite Beach Library. He changed my life. I had started on a statin drug a month prior...I noticed a loss of memory but did not associate it with the statin until Dr. Graveline mentioned it. I stopped the drug and my memory gradually improved, but it took a couple of years to fully recover. He has helped many people and will continue to do so after his passing...his books are a legacy that will live a long time. My condolences to his family.

Dr. Duane Graveline validated what happened to me in 2005. I, too, had a terrible reaction to statins after only taking it for 5 days. He was a source of information and comfort for me. I am truly sorry to hear of his passing. Ellen Murphy

Your bell, ringing the note of caution about the possible adverse side effects of cholesterol drugs, rang round the world, and the echo will continue to be heard by folks who are willing to be in charge of their health! Thank you, your team and wife, for alerting me so long ago! The message was also passed along to so many of my patients and acquaintances, complaining about leg muscle cramps. My first question: "Are you on any cholesterol medication?" You have steered many folks on the right right track for health preservation! I appreciated the fact that you always had time to respond to some of your email readers!
I contacted you about "My Precious Spine And I," and got the following response:

Belated thanks to Dr. Graveline for his years of email newsletters. Their documentation of his courageous battle with the statin and its devastating side effects cannot fail but hasten an end to the persistent and unquestioning love affair with statins presently pursued throughout much of the medical and pharmaceutical professions. The Spacedoc held an admirable position in medical science and in our human family. My condolences to his own family for their loss.

My deepest sympathy to Suzanne & family. 12 years ago I was almost killed by an anti-biotic--amoxicillin C plus clavulanate--since then I stayed away from traditional medicine.

For years, Dr. Graveline's informative Newsletters have been most helpful for me. I always looked forward to receiving them via email. I have purchased a couple of his first books, and I have discussed some articles with my primary care doctor and also my cardiologist. Because of Dr. Graveline, I was able to follow some research studies. Having poor memory, I would print parts of the newsletters so that I could refer to them. I would read them over and over. I am truly grateful to Dr. Graveline. I noticed the decrease in my memory, and I stopped the statins. May God bless his family.

I was honored and privileged to have known Duane through our shared interest in cholesterol and statin drugs and our formal ties through THINCs. He was one of my personal heroes and I was so impressed with the depth of his knowledge on statin drugs and the enormous effort he put into sharing that knowledge with the world. Few can aspire to the greatness that he achieved in the domain of statin drugs, and I am aware that he also had an illustrious career in the space program. I am very sad to hear this unfortunate news. His greatness will live on in our memories and in his many published books and articles. My sincere condolences to Suzanne and the loved ones he left behind.

What a wonderful man. I will never forget his marvelous contribution to all who suffer the nasty side affects of statins. My dear husband of 51 years passed away at the age off 71 on June 30th this year with identical side affects to Dr. Gravelines. My husband and I began correspondence with Dr. Gravline in 2004 and were involved in the Drs. research as my husband was a participant. God bless Dr. Gravline and all who have passed away and suffered from statin damage.

Statins and their effects on the body were new to me when a friend recommended I investigate Doc's online site. Reading and following links from the site, I learned about statins and cholesterol. I soon requested that my wife stop taking a statin because she has type 2 diabetes but no signs of heart/artery disease. I credit Doc with educating both of us and possibly preserving her health. We have all lost a good man who spoke the unpopular truth.

I first read "My Statin Story" around 2009. I was so very impressed and tried to convince my parents to quit taking statins. They would not budge, tho', because they assumed their doctors were "God." I was so enthused with the information Dr. Graveline passed on to all who would read. He came across as a real, caring man. I continued reading the email "newsletters" I received from the doctor over the years and just liked "hearing" the doctor's words. I REALLY grew to like and admire him. I was SO TERRIBLY sad to see the email informing us he had passed. I will not forget him, and I hope his family is at peace knowing he performed, explored, and studied such wonderful and helpful topics and got them out "to the world." Thank you so much for allowing me to write something. I will miss hearing from Dr. Graveline. Rest in peace, Doctor.

It is with great sadness that I learned today that we have lost a brave fellow warrior who came to my attention for his speaking out against the pharmaceutical industry and its views on wrongly demonising the role of cholesterol and the dangerous statin drugs.
Thank you Dr Duane, I'm deeply saddened that we have lost you but forever grateful for your knowledge, your acute awareness to connect the dots and your honesty and desire to publicly tell your story.
I have given many people the link to Dr Duane's website even up until just a few days ago. I feel like I've lost a friend. From the beginning of my statin nightmare, Dr. Graveline alone communicated his knowledge and wisdom about these very dangerous and mostly unnecessary drugs. I often feel like my doctors are not listening and certainly not believing what I'm saying. I'm so thankful I stumbled onto his newsletter and the community support. Soon after met Doc I was astonished to find his chief priority seemed to be helping me! He always showed me the greatest care and respect while he was the celebrity.
