My cousin Dudley was a wonderful man throughout his entire life. We grew up togeher in Leonia, New Jersey. My mother June Davis Boggia was Dudley's father's sister. We went to the same elementary school and high school. Dudley had a personality like no other! He loved to tell stories and made everyone laugh. He would love to come to our house and talk to my mother who he really loved in so many ways! He adored his mother Louise who was an amazing riter of poetry which he was so proud to boast about. We were a very close family and celebrated many holidays together. We all loved being around Dudley, because he was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed just being with you! Dudley had a great mind and loved to learn many things which made him such a great teacher for most of his lifetime! We can all be certain and happy to know that Dudley was met with open arms by Jesus and his family in heaven! May God rest this wonderful man's soul as he is in peace and total happiness! I will alwys think of him! Love you Dudley, Cousin Portia

I had the pleasure to be taught English by Mr. Davis in the early 1970's. I have found memories of him and St. Helena's High school. Rest in peace and thank you for being a part of my life. Anthony J. Domini, class of 1972.

Dudley was a heart of gold. I had the opportunity to get to know Dudley as a patient. He was a kind, incredible soul who brought joy to everyone he touched. The world lost a great person, and heaven gained a beautiful soul. Rest east buddy.

I never had the privilege of being in one of Mr. Davis classess. However, I remember seeing him around campus all the time. This was especially true when we were in the "Boys School". We had a few casual conversations over my 4 years at Scanlan. I think we also played agianst him in the Turkey Bowl (Class of 1978). "May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest" - Hamlet

I had Mr. Davis for english, he was a fine teacher and well like by the entire student body. I remember Mr. Davis
attending both JV and Varsity baseball games always with his trusty camera around his neck and I can still hear his hearty and infectious laugh.
Rest in Peace Mr. Davis and may God give comfort and strength to the entire Davis family during this difficult time.

Dudley was an extraordinary teacher and human being. He taught me to use my imagination and appreciate art (especially Norman Rockwell), literature (Poe), poetry (Poe), and theater (Fiddler on the Roof). He connected with all students and never lost his cool.
He was also a kind and generous individual. I am glad we got to reconnect in the mid 2010s and attend Saint Helena/Msgr. Scanlan reunions. Those long conversations on the trips from Secaucus to the Bronx (and back) were enlightening and brought back fond memories.
RIP gentle soul!

I'm so sorry to hear about Dudley's passing. He was a mentor to me at St John's in Leonia back in the 1960's-70's. He took me and a couple other students on a weekend retreat to a location in New York state along the Hudson River which I recall vividly. There we got together with several of his students from his school in the Bronx. It was probably the first time that either one of our groups got to meet other people our age who were not from our communities. It was an experience which I still remember to this day and an eye opener when it came to not pre-judge an individual simply from where they were from, we came away with a better understanding of each other.

Mr. Davis has been and continues to be an inspiration. Through him I came to enjoy many of the early American writers. Writing styles were learned and appreciated. To this day, as I write, I hear his instruction.
My condolences to the family of Mr. Dudley Davis.

I am sorry for your loss. I can not attend services but will keep your family in my prayers. Mr Davis was my teacher twice in 1974-78. He was kind and understanding of the teenage mind! I am today the mother of three; one of which is a History/English teacher in NYC high schoolhis influence lives on. He will always be remembered fondly. May he rest in peace.

I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of what we called our favorite teacher Mr. Dudley. I speak on behalf of many of my classmates of the Class of 1980 Msgr. Scanlan HS that Mr. Davis was very much a beloved teacher, drivers ed coach, Yearbook Committee moderator, history and english classes, a great colleague to many of the faculty. Mr. Davis was loved by all the students and the sparkhill nuns that taught at Scanlan, especially past principals Sr. Kathleen, Sr. Marion, Sr. Eileen Clifford. He was a very kind and compassionate man. He had a tremendous sense of humor and was always laughing with the students in the hallways. He would be one of the few teachers that would show up to many of our reunions. We know he is in great company now with so many of our beloved teachers and will shine down upon us all. Rest In Peace Dudley you were truly one of a kind!
