Shirley and to your family. I was deeply saddened by the news of Duff's passing. I have known of Duff since his time in Prince Albert and I was fortunate to get to know him during my years at the University of Saskatchewan. My association and interactions with Duff are memorable and it was always a pleasure. He was indeed a very caring and a "gentle" man. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with you and your family during these difficult times.

To the Entire Spafford Family,
I am so saddened to hear of Mr. Spafford's passing. I recall him as such a kind, funny and interesting man. His knowledge and interest on such a vast array of subjects was amazing but as was his generosity and wit.
What a great man.
My deepest condolences.

Dear Peter & family,
I didn't have the pleasure of meeting your dad but he must have been a wonderful man. At the end of the day, all we have left is memories. May the warm memories of your father carry you through this difficult time.

Duff was equally a son of Saskatchewan and a scholar of global standing. Memories of exchanging ideas with him are acute and fond, and all the more painful for that. Our condolences to Shirley and to all who were close to him.

My dad, who was born and raised on a farm just outside Weyburn, always spoke so fondly of his teacher, Mrs. Spafford. I believe this was Duff's mother? Anyway, he thought so highly of the entire Spafford family. Sending heartfelt sympathy and condolences.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I fondly remember Duff's affectionate and knowing eulogy at Dad's memorial service at Convocation Hall, and my chat with him at the gathering at home afterwards. He was one of the good guys.

Although I first knew Professor Spafford through my parents, I had the pleasure of working with him on the Sheaf centennial organizing committee, where his energy and enthusiasm inspired us all. A great loss.

My condolences to Shirley and the children.
