DUTCH "FRANCIS STEWART" SAVAGE
JUNE 9, 1935 ~ AUGUST 3, 2013

Dutch Savage, age 78, of Yacolt, WA, has passed away as the result of a major stroke. He was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on June 9 of 1935.
He is survived by his wife, Willa Stewart, of 32 years; his 5 children, Charlotte Stewart, Danny Stewart, Mark Stewart, Mitzi Graham and Mitchell Stewart; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and brother, Jimmie Stewart.
Dutch loved Salmon fishing, working at home with his tractor, and spending time with his beloved friends and family.
Serving four years in the Air Force as a Drill Instructor, he then worked as a Police Officer. In 1962, going on to Professional Wrestling until retiring in 1981.
He dedicated countless hours to Youth for Drug/Alcohol Awareness.
Dutch had an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ with an unconditional love and concern for his fellow man. He had the roar of a Lion, yet the heart of a lamb.
Dutch was meticulous in all areas of his life, generous in all things. His witty, larger than life sense of humor will forever be remembered. Dutch had an enormous loving heart that he shared with all mankind. A one of a kind loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather that will never be forgotten. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Services will be held graveside, Lewisville Cemetery, Thursday, August 8th at 11a.m.

It hardly seems possible that 'The Dutchman' has been gone for 8 years. Such an icon for the PNW and professional Wrestling. Dutch will always live in my heart and mind as the true representative of Portland Wrestling. RIP sir, you are missed!!!!!

My wife found The Dutchman when we were buying a home in Battle Ground in 1998. We chatted about wrestling and his career, and I mentioned that Hulk Hogan was going to be doing a photo op for eye doctors at a Vegas Trade Show. Told me to "give Terry my best." So I made a point to stand in line for the photo and after the handshake, told Hulk "Dutch Savage sends his regards." The Hulkster said..."you know the Dutchman...how's he doing, what's he doing, oh I remember some good time and he taught me a lot." We chatted about how he was doing and up in Battle Ground, and it was nice to hear a colleague tell short stories till all the handlers decided it was time to end the old home week reunion. He was a classy guy, and he and his wife gifted us a lovely lamp which I have to this day. One great guy and given is life's missions, I know he's in heaven with his Lord.

I really enjoyed visiting in the Safeway in Battle Ground WA, I was meat manager there for many years, he was a regular customer, always very friendly, I saw a post on FB today about Portland wrestlers , and it reminded me of my many conversations with him in the store, I would have loved to have known him better and go on a fishing trip I hear he was so fond of. I am truly grateful to have Dutch Savage as a childhood memory! He was an incredible performer and everything about him made the statement that he was a good man and good people to know! May God Bless you in your loss and may He comfort you with a peace that can only come from our Lord.

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
(Isaiah 40:28-31 NIV)
God's peace to your loved ones.

It's so often difficult; to know what to say; when someone so loved, passes away.

For those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day,
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

I remember when I was just a young girl and Portland Wrestling had come to St Helens Oregon to wrestle at the Armory. I remember thinking he was quite the Handsome young man & had a Heart of Gold. I remember that night; when I got to meet him, after watching him wrestle, how gentle and kind he truly was, when he shook my hand.
It was truly my pleasure, and I will always treasure.... the memories of a legacy, that "Dutch Savage" leaves behind. My sincere condolences to his extended family, friends and Fans.... From all around the world. Forever in our Hearts....!

When I was just 16 I was working at Burgerville when Dutch came in with several of his friends. I had been a fan of his for several years and was a bit in awe to serve him. Then he gave me a tip that was basically the same amount as the order. As a broke 16 year old Junior in high school this was huge for me. I realized that day that he was so much more than just his wrestling image. May he rest in peace.

RIP Big Man!!
I will always remember Dutch as the biggest man I ever met. I was 16 or 17 when I first met him and he towered over me then and I was not small at all. When he shook my hand, his hand wrapped around mine like a baseball glove worn by the gentle giant.
I will always remember him for always being so kind to me and my family when ever we had the chance to see him in action.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, contendors in the squared circle and all of his fans around the world. May his legacy live on forever!!! He will be missed by many I am sure!

My mother LOVED Dutch. She and I would watch Portland Wrestling every Saturday night. My mother was born in Tennessee and was a very feisty and short Southern Woman (certainly not the Southern Belle type though) We even went down a few times. Mother would get so upset when the wrestlers would get hurt and bleed.

So one night, she & my father and their friends went down to the match to watch it live. Dutch got hammered on by another wrestler - bleeding, limping, etc. my mother got so upset she went to the bathroom (knowing her, she probably went to see if she could help him - not only was she FEISTY as all get out, she had a tremendous compassionate heart). As she was coming out of the lady's room, Dutch was coming around the corner from backstage - clean, showered, all put together: not a SCRATCH on him.

Mother looked at him and said 'What happened? You had blood everywhere and bruises, now you don't have a scratch?'

Dutch patted her head (she was only 5' 1' or so and weighed about 175 lbs and had dark permed curly hair) and said to her 'Well honey, I guess you don't come to wrestling very often do you? Don't believe everything you see in TV'. Then he smiled and winked at her and left the arena. My mother talked about that for ad long ad I can remember - COMPLETELY changed the way she watched wrestling from then on!

Thank you, Dutch for bringing much joy and entertainment to our lives and especially to my mother - when you see her in Heaven, go pat her on her on her little black curly head again!

Prayers and blessings to your family - thank you for sharing him with so many of us!
