NEWTON - Earl Alvin Armstrong, 80, passed away on April 26, 2009 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Catawba Valley surrounded by his loving family. Born July 6, 1928 in Whitmire, SC, he was the son of the late Earl Eldon Armstrong and Mary Elizabeth Kidd Armstrong. He served honorably in the Korean War, was a member of the American Legion, and retired from Electric Service Group, Inc., of Hickory. He was a tireless worker and a loyal friend to many, as well as a loving father and grandfather. Mr. Armstrong is survived by three children, Donald Armstrong (Carolyn), Beth Foss (Jeffrey), and Jeanne Aaroe (Christian); their mother, Merle Hartsell Armstrong, grandchildren, Caleb, Nicholas, Matthew, and Mary; siblings Kenneth Armstrong, Sherry A. Crisp (Harold), and Ernest Armstrong, numerous nieces and nephews, and special companion, Aileene Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Anne Ledford and Gene Armstrong. There will be a graveside service on Friday, May 1, 11 am at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, Pastor Arthur O. Yount of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter &Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658 and Calvary Baptist Church, 11 East C Street, Newton, NC 28658.
