OBITUARY Dunn, NC Mr. Earl C. Godwin, age 88 of Taylors Chapel Rd., Dunn, died Thursday morning, May 16, 2013 at his home. Mr. Godwin was born December 28, 1924 in Sampson County the son of the late Buddie and Callie Jernigan Godwin and is preceded in death by his wife of 61 Years, Maurice Barnes Godwin and preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Brown and a daughter-in-law, Judy Autry Godwin. Mr. Godwin loved working in his garden and sharing with others. Most of all he loved caring for his special daughter, Carol. He worked on the family farm, was part of active seniors and loved delivering flowers to the shut-ins. He was retired from Erwin Mills with 35 years of service, then he worked as a shuttle driver for Godwin Manufacturing until 2007. He was a charter member of Plain View Fire Dept. and was the treasurer for over 30 Years. He was a member of Lee's Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church serving as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and was on the Cemetery Committee. He was a member of Mingo Lodge 206 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Lee's Chapel Original Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Earl C. West officiating. Burial will follow in Lee's Chapel / Williford Cemetery. Survivors include: Son: Earl Wayne Godwin of Dunn, NC Daughters: Carol Diane Godwin of Dunn, NC Pamela G. Spell and husband Dwight of Dunn, NC Phyllis G. Shirley and husband Tommy of Dunn, NC Sister: Lois Tyndall and husband O.C. of Dunn, NC Grandchildren: Chris Godwin of Clinton, NC, Steven Godwin, Kimberly Godwin, Sarah Spell, Andrew Shirley all of Dunn, NC, Whitney Harrison of Shalimar, Fl. Great Grandchildren: Daniel Godwin, Grace Spell, Victoria Spell all of Dunn, NC Cooper & Chance Harrison of Shalimar, Fl. Faithful Dog: Jake of the home The family will receive friends Friday, May 17, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Cromartie Miller and Lee Funeral Home in Dunn and at other times at the home, 2426 Taylors Chapel Rd.
