Earl Shurtz was my step-brother after my mother married Earl's father. My parents and his were old friends for many years and after a time following the death of my father and Earl's mother, the remaining parents married. Our family visited in Earl's home in Granville on various holidays and special occasions for many years.
We offer our deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences to Earl's family. He was an exceptional individual, friendly, experienced, talented and a highly recognized businessman and civic and educational leader. People like him don't come along often. He will be missed by many organizations in the Granville-Newark area.

I was so sad to hear of the passing of Uncle Earl. Some of my best memories growing up are of spending time on the farm with Grandma & George, sharing marshmallows with Andrea, riding tractors, playing in the creek down the road and going for walks along Winnie the Pooh jumping between tractor wheel ruts and waving at cows. Earl had a unique sounding voice- a gift from George I'd expect-who was quite a singer.
I was looking forward to taking a tour of the little white schoolhouse down Rt. 93 that our family had drove by thousands of times. We continued to stay in touch over the years and had many hearty discussions about high tech, politics and history. My sincerest condolences to Cathy, the kids and to his extended family and friends, who will all miss Earl dearly.

We are the best of friends. 50+ years together. From countless Ohio State games home and away. To the Rose Bowl and sharing a room for 4 nights!!! OMG!
Our quiet talks about friends and family....bad calls by referees and of course politics. To being with you as you took your last breath on earth.
Today as you are laid to rest my heart is broken. It hurts so bad because the memories are so good.
RIP my friend.
