One of the greatest linemen of all time. Why he and Otis are not in the Hall of Fame is beyond me. Will be watching the Super Bowl in Heaven with Lenny, Otis, and Buck.

Back in 1967-1968 i worked at interstate securities downtown. Ed Budde and Len Dawson did some PR for the company. I was in a glass elevator with him and rode all three floors. When we got out one of the girls had had a baby and had brought the baby in to show us all. Ed Budde held the baby and put his finger under the babies chin and made the sound of an airplane rotor. It was absolutely adorable and so funny. This big guy holding this little 6-7 lb. Baby and making funny sounds. One of the sweetest memories ever.

Ed was a friend of my Dad, Lewie. He was so humble and generous. I´ll never forget all the fun that they had. He will be dearly missed. My sister and I across the miles now from KC, shared tears and memories today. Much love and prayers to his family and friends.

As Publicity Director of the Chiefs it was my job to help the local and National media speak to our players. Ed was always accessible, courteous, caring and just a wonderful human who happened to play football at a very high level. It was his blocking that opened up the hole on 65 toss powered trap which enabled Mike Garrett to score the Chiefs first touchdown in Super Bowl 4. We would often meet at lunch time at the Long Branch Saloon in Lenexa. He treated people with respect and he earned the respect he received. He will definitely be missed.

I worked with Ed at Coca- Cola. I am writing this, but many, many could write the same thing. Ed was a man among men. His positive, happy, caring and considerate attitude will always be a memory for me. I am grateful for having known Ed Budde. Always appreciate that he touched so many!!

What a presence on that exceptional, and exceptionally large, Chiefs' offensive line from that era. Ed was one of the key players who demonstrated that the AFL could compete with , and beat, the best that the NFL had to offer. And he continued to excel, at a Pro Bowl caliber level, after the merger.

Rest in peace, Big Ed. We'll never forget #71.
