BILLBURG, WILLIAM STANLEY May 27, 1932 to October 18, 2011 William "Bill" S. Billburg was born in San Diego to Henry G. and Nellie B. Billburg. A lifelong resident of San Diego, he grew up in Pacific Beach and graduated from La Jolla High School in 1950. He served a four-year tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and returned to San Diego in 1954. Bill graduated from SDSU in 1958 and began his career with the San Diego County Probation Department. He served in a variety of management positions throughout the county before retiring in 1988. He leaves behind his six children, Robert, John, David (CDR, USCG) and his wife Jennifer, Sharon Jenkins Ph.D, and her husband Ben, Matthew and Marcia. He also leaves five lovely granddaughters who all adored him: Hattie, Margaret and Ellen Jenkins, and Allison and Katherine Billburg. Bill thoroughly enjoyed his later years in association with the La Mesa Senior Softball League and the National City Men's Golf Club. I was a Deputy PO at Rancho Del Campo from 1974 to 1978 and Bill was a Director there. We got along just fine and he was a good man. He was very tolerant of me! Sorry for your loss. Jim Scott

Bill was the Superintendent where I worked in the 1980s. I remember him as a kind man. I only knew Robert as I worked with him for several years. I am sorry for your loss and I pray that God will comfort you and your family. Dave Young

Bill was a great guy, both on and off the ball field. His courage in the face of severe health problems was an inspiration.
