Eddie Duane Solum was born on September 10, 1942 to Robert and Edna Solum in Bonner's Ferry, Idaho. He was the youngest of three boys. He always looked up to his older brothers, Darrell and Dallas. He grew up in Georgetown, Idaho and graduated from Montpelier High School in 1960.
He worked various jobs from ranching to working for the Cattleman's Association. Then he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served in Vietnam. When returning home, he went to work for Monsanto Co., which he retired from in 1997. He then worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a camp host at various locations, then working for Scenic Canyons as a camp host and especially enjoyed the summer he spent in Stanley, Idaho.
His hobbies included reading anything about history, especially the Civil War. Also, he loved camping, hunting, gun collecting and 4-wheeling with his family, friends and his best friend, Buddy. He was always at home in the mountains.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Buddy. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Stoddard Solum, his brothers, Darrell (Connie) Solum of Murray, Utah and Dallas (Marcia) Solum of Garden City, Utah; his children, Tracy (Joe) Booth of Montpelier, Idaho, Brett (Barbara) Lyon of Logan, Utah, Dani (Kale) Wurthrich of Montpelier, Idaho and Dawson (Becky) Solum of Paris, Idaho; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in the Georgetown City Cemetery, Georgetown, Idaho on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 beginning at 11:00 am; with an evening viewing Monday, May 23, 2016 from 7:00 pm-9:00 pm, at Schwab-Matthews Mortuary, 702 Clay Street Montpelier, Idaho.
