Eddy Armstrong Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 8 to Jan. 10, 2024.
Athens - Edwin John "Eddy" Armstrong met Jesus on January 5, 2024 after a brief illness. Born November 6, 1968 in Pullman, Washington, the son of a college professor, he grew up in different areas of the country including Pepperell, MA; Tulsa, OK; and College Station, TX but settled in Athens, GA after moving there when he was 16. Influenced by several college towns, it was The GA Bulldogs, the deep friendships made and a rewarding career that allowed him to live most of his adult life in the Athens community that meant much to him.

Eddy graduated from UGA in 1999 with a degree in Landscape Grounds Management. This was synonymous with his love for all things nature. One of his favorite jobs was working with the UGA Warnell School's Fisheries & Wildlife project at Whitehall Forest where he became proficient in tree identification and deer herd cultivation.

Eddy's career was spent in the residential building industry where he was an outside salesman. Known for his humor, antiquated ways and unexpected voicemails, he frequently was top of the sales charts and considered many of his clients, colleagues and vendors among his closest friends. He began his long career at Williams Bros and ended at Harbin Lumber Co - valuing the family-owned business model with his loyalty and strong work ethic.

Once he knew his customers were taken care of for the day, you could find Eddy on the water, in the woods or visiting with a friend. He was the epitome of "staying in touch". He loved to hunt, but rarely killed - He caught thousands of fish, but always threw them back. For him, the quest was the fun - to be able to communicate and connect with nature - not to overcome it. His loving respect for nature was important, reverent, and spiritual for him.

Eddy leaves the world and hundreds of people better because he lived and loved in a unique, memorable and special Eddy Armstrong way. His true gift was making us smile while inspiring us to not take life too seriously.

He is survived by his wife, Katrina L. Bowers and stepson, Drew Bowers, with whom he shared his passions for sports and nature. His loving Texas family includes his parents, Bob & Ingrid Armstrong, his brother, Andy (Mercedes) and sister Sarah (Bill) as well as his four nieces: Gabi, Mila, Ruthie and Kate - who he adored, teased without ceasing and endured many makeovers through the years. His Aunt Carol and Uncle Jim from Nebraska and cousins also from Nebraska, Arizona and Washington.

A celebration of a life lived boldly will be held at Oconee Presbyterian Church in Watkinsville, GA on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 2pm with a reception following for visitation. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tax-deductible contribution to the Eddy Armstrong 4-H Sportsman Fund which has been created to foster responsible participation in hunting, fishing and archery activities for Georgia's youth.
