We are so sorry to hear that Ed passed away. This is truly an end of an era. I think that Whittier will never know a more generous and loyal benefactor than Ed along with Ruth. They don't make them like him anymore!

Our sincere condolences to Ruth and the Shannon family on Ed's passing. We were at Neal Parry's Celebration of Life a few short weeks ago, and I just got a note from Jane that Ed too had passed on. I worked for SF from 1965 to 1975 all over the world, and was privileged to see Ed's handiwork first hand in the explosive growth of the company during that period, and beyond. Ed's principles and sure judgment guided this, and have provided me with a blueprint for our own ventures post-Santa Fe. I'm just sorry I never really got to know Ed better.

Sincerely

Dear Shannons,
We are saddened with the news of Ed's passing. He was a loyal and true friend to so many. He has earned the respect of us all and he will be greatly missed. While he has accomplished much in his life, the true measure of his success will be the way we remember him, a good and honest Christian man who placed his family and friends first.
With our love,
The Flowers and Polson Families

Ed has left a legacy of leadership, honesty, integrity, loyalty and friendship.
I have felt his touch through scouting, business and the club at Friendly Hills in Whittier.
I am truly glad to have met him.

Dear Ruth and Family,
The Rosenberger family extends our condolences to you and your family. We are very sorry to hear the news about Ed. Both of you share an exceptional life together!
My parents have the deepest respect for their friendship with you both and enjoyed working together on community, hospital, and college improvements. Whittier, along with greater southern California will surely miss Ed's leadership and generosity.
Ed will always remain an inspiration to all.

Dear Ruth and family,
The Jim Farley family sends our prayers and love at this difficult time.
Ed was a wonderful Christian, and, in a biblical sense, I am sure that he passed through the 'eye of the needle' on his express trip to Heaven!
So many people and groups loved Ed as he was always such a gracious benefactor. No cause was too small for him to support.
He left large footprints in the sand, and he set a wonderful example for those of us trying to lead exemplary Christian lives.
May Heaven restore Ed to playing golf and riding horses, two of his favorite activities.
He was very special.
Much love to you, Ruth, and to your family.
