EDGAR KRASA Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 9 to Feb. 10, 2017.
KRASA, Edgar Joseph Of Newton, on February 7, 2017. Our family, friends, locally and abroad mourn the loss of Edgar. Only he and his parents survived the Holocaust. His answer to the genocide was to rebuild his family. After starting life over 3 times from nothing in Czechoslovakia, Israel, and the USA, he achieved, together with his late wife of 65 years Hana (Fuchs) Krasa, all he could have dreamed of. With his boundless love, generosity, dedication, sacrifice, and hard work, he built a wonderful life, home, and family. For the past 30 years Edgar committed himself to share his survival story with thousands of children and adults at synagogues, churches, and universities. His legacy and contribution can be seen in the documentary "Defiant Requiem". He will be missed by sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Tatjana, Raphael and Debra and his five grandchildren Rachel, Yonatan, Benyamin, Rebecca, Alex and many friends. A funeral service will take place on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 12:30 pm at Temple Reyim, 1860 Washington St., MA 02466, followed by burial at King Solomon Cemetery, 2690 Centre St., W. Roxbury, MA 02132. Following the burial, Shiva will take place at Edgar's residence with a minyan service at 5:30 pm and Monday 3:00-5:00 pm and beginning again at 7:00 pm with a minyan service at 7:30 pm. Donations may be sent to Defiant Requiem Foundation, PO Box 6242, Washington, D.C. 20015 and Terezin Music Foundation, Astor Station, Box 206, Boston, MA 02123. It was my great privilege to have met Edgar and Hana and write about them when they attended a Defiant Requiem performance in Berlin in which their sons sang. I have interviewed hundreds of personalities from presidents down but my talk with them stands out as a great lesson in human strength, dignity and simply kindness. May they both rest in peace. My deepest condolences. Edgar was a phenomenol man, and a wonerful influence in the lives of my three children and their many classmates. He came to speak at Kerem Shalom in Concord and at my children's schools and each time he was able to meet children where they were, and tell them in a relatable and impactful way about his expereince of survival. His contributions were enormorus and his legacy will carry on.

May his memory be a blessing to you and all your family.

Danny, Tatjiana and Family, I last saw your beloved father, father-in-law & grand-dad at the performance of Defiant Requiem in Boston. Although I did not know him, it was evident that Edgar created a beautiful legacy through his strength and love of his family. What I knew of him I learned through you at German-Jewish dialogue and the wonderful visit in your home during Chanukah. His and Hana's dedication to the Jewish people are symbols of their love of life and a tribute to their survival. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

I am a middle school teacher at a school in CT. I had the pleasure of meeting Edgar during a college class at Bay Path College. Every year at this time I teach a unit on the Holocaust. I tell my students about Edgar and how he so deeply touched my life. I just saw this obituary and while looking Edgar up. I am so blessed to have meet him!!!

My students at Boston University loved seeing Edgar and listening to him when he came to give his talks in my classes. Here are just a few notes from one of his last visits.

We all will miss Edgar!

Professor Leibman-
Please tell Mr. Krasa that his talks to us were phenomenal and very special. We are very special to have the opportunity to meet someone who had not only been in Auschwitz, but is willing to discuss it with us and tell us what it was really like, as many people refuse to talk
about their experiences. Thank you so much for coming to our class and giving us a personal account of what the Holocaust was truly like.

P.S. I enjoyed personally talking to you on the T after class.

Crystal Hall

Hi Prof. Leibman,

Please tell Mr. Krasa that I was very moved by his talk. I admire his incredible strength in his willingness to talk about his experiences. I began to realize that we, as students, can not even begin to understand what it was really like to be a Holocaust survivor. It is one thing to learn about this history in a classroom, but to come in contact with people who have actually lived through it, is a completely difference experience. Please send Mr. Krasa my thanks and regards.

Sincerely,
Crystal

For Mr. Krasa- I would like to thank him, because I can't imagine how difficult it must be for him to constantly relive his memories in sharing them with us. His talk was the most powerful thing we have had all semester...and showing us his tattoo was heartbreaking. It really
brought the message in.

Thanks,

Ashley
