Ed McMillan was one of my first principals. I remember him being so understanding and kind. He always encouraged me and taught me that family came first, no matter what. As a colleague, I always appreciated his calmness and sense of humor. Fond memories of him.......

"Dr. Mc" hired me as a fresh-out-of-college new teacher on an emergency certificate to teach Bilingual Kindergarten in August 1993. He taught me not to worry about the things I couldn't control, and to work hard to change the things I could.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I am a retired Tyler ISD secretary in the Special Education Department at the Administration Building. I will always remember how nice Mr. McMillan always was to me. He was a very special man. Also, he taught the Defensive Driving course I had to take for a ticket I had gotten and he was a lot fun! You're in my prayers.

I was one of the fortunate students at Mattie Jones in the early 1960s that had "Mr. McMillan" as my principal. I will always remember him as being very kind and always had a smile on his face. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Dr. McMillan was the first person I met when my family moved to Tyler. I took my two children to enroll them at Rice School only to learn my son's class had just left for their week at Camp Tyler. Dr. McMillan explained that Jimmy could either go to camp or wait till the class returned to start school. He wanted to go, so after quickly packing for a place I'd never heard of, Dr. McMillan drove Jimmy and me to the camp. He pointed out interesting facts and places along the way, and made me very comfortable sending my child to a place I'd never heard of with people I did not know. Years later Dr. McMillan was in my lab and I reminded him of that day. I shall never forget his kindness and his gentle spirit.
