CONYBEARE, Edith Mary
The family of Edith Mary Conybeare is saddened by her sudden death at home on Friday December 9, 2011 at the age of 88 years. In 2000, she was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Henry Maynard Olivier Conybeare. Mary is survived by two daughters, Marion Jacobsen (Calgary) and Marni Conybeare (Edmonton); three grandsons, Christopher Jacobsen (Denmark), Dwayne Jacobsen (Calgary), and Scott Jacobsen (Colleen) of Calgary; one granddaughter Cindy Slobodan (Matt) of Edmonton; five great-grandchildren; Alicia Jacobsen, Claire and Thomas Jacobsen, Abbylynn and Reid Slobodan. Also surviving Mary are her brother John Jenkinson (Joyce), niece Linda Lee (Peter), great-niece Joanna Wilkinson (Robert) all of England. Born February 20, 1923 in Chingford England, Mary grew up in Catford England, both districts of London. During World War II Mary was a nurse in three London hospitals, all of which were bombed. Mary met her husband while he was serving with the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in England, thus becoming a Canadian War Bride. Mary travelled on the first troop ship carrying war brides to Canada, arriving in Halifax May 12, 1945 and then rode a train for five days to Calgary. In Alberta, Mary lived in Calgary 1945, High River 1945-1948, Strathmore 1948-1952, Edmonton 1952-1991. She worked for Sears (Simpson Sears) in Edmonton for over 25 years before retiring and moving to Calgary with her husband to "Evergreen Estates" apartments where she became friends with many wonderful people over the next 20 years, especially her housekeeper Claudia Tiberg (Ken). Mary spent some of her retirement years travelling to Singapore, Australia and Denmark but her favorite place to visit was her brother's home in Silverdale, Lancastershire , England. In accordance with Mary's wishes, there will be no funeral services. Following cremation, interment will be beside her husband in the Conybeare family plot in Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge. Donations in Mary's name can be made to the Veterans Food Bank at the Colonel Belcher Hospital. Arrangements by Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services Telephone: 403-216-5111

I am so sorry to hear that Mary passed away. She was the sweetest person and I used to bring her flowers from the Lougheed historic gardens as she loved them so much. I will miss her.
