Mrs. Edith Marion Elder, of Brookland, departed this life on Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Flo & Phil Jones Hopsice House in Jonesboro, at the age of 92. She was born October 14, 1917 in Burnt Hill, the daughter of Richard Johnson and Bonnie Neely Johnson. She married Lestel Elder on January 26, 1940, and they enjoyed 67 years together before his death in 2007. She was a factory worker for Frolic Footwear for 29 years and a member of the Brookland United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, as well as reading and camping. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Elder, 3 brothers, Fred Johnson, Orville Johnson, and Robert “Shorty� Johnson, a sister, Bonnie Davis and a grandson, Hayden Elder. She is survived by a son and his wife, Ralph and Brenda Elder, a daughter and her husband, Sue and Wilson Shipman, a brother, Harry Johnson, all of Brookland, 7 Grandchildren, Sharon Coggins, Regina Farley and her husband Aaron, Suzanne Elder, Bryan Shipman and his wife Angie, Chad Elder, Blake Elder and his wife Jill, all of Brookland, and Sheryl Hoke and her husband Kevin of Jonesboro, 13 great grandchildren, Nick Coggins, Hunter Coggins, Logan Shipman, Leslie Shipman, Patrick Farley, Emily Farley, Jerrod Hollis, Gareth Hollis, Tanner Hoke, Shanley Hoke, Chandler Elder, Kendall Elder, and Cayden Elder, and 1 great great granddaughter, Neely Coggins. A celebration of her life is scheduled at 3:00 p.m. Monday, at the Brookland United Methodist Church with Rev. James Wainscott officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Log Cemetery at Brookland under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Bryan Shipman, Chad Elder, Aaron Farley, Jerrod Hollis, Patrick Farley and Nick Coggins. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Hoke, Gareth Hollis, Hunter Coggins, Tanner Hoke, Blake Elder and Logan Shipman. Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday evening, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Lasting memorials may be sent to Pine Log Cemetery, the Brookland United Methodist Church or the Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House.
