Edith Mae Swinney Haynesworth
Hartsville — Funeral services for Edith Mae Swinney Haynesworth will be held on Monday, April 24, 2006 beginning at 3 p.m. at New Hopewell Baptist Church. The burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc. Reverend Calvin Daniels, the pastor of New Hopewell will officiate the service.
Mrs. Haynesworth was born January 8, 1928 in the Byrdtown Community of Darlington County. She was the seventh child of Evander and Rosa Lee Smith Swinney. She attended Robinson Elementary and later graduated from Butler High School in 1946. At Butler, she was a superstar basketball player serving as captain of her team for two years.
At an early age, she joined the New Hopewell Baptist Church in Society Hill. She was married to the late Albert Haynesworth Sr. Mrs. Haynesworth was a homemaker and was the child care provider for many families in and around Hartsville.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Edith Mae Swinney Haynesworth include: four daughters, Alta (Evans) Gilliard, Elizabeth Haynesworth and Anita Davis, all of Hartsville, and Lunette (Floyd) Taylor of Kernersville, N.C.; three sons, Albert Haynesworth Jr., Maceo Haynesworth Sr. and Timothy (Valerie) Haynesworth, all of Hartsville; three sisters, Leona (Joe) Budd and Jeannette Hurst, both of Philadelphia, and Judy Furlow of Baltimore; a brother, Henry Swinney of Darlington; nine grandchildren, Tracey Copeland, Trena (Isaiah) Addison, Nedra Haynesworth, Maceo Haynesworth Jr., Latoya Haynesworth, Albert (Stephanie) Haynesworth III, Chip (Keyla) Gilliard, Bryce Taylor and Courtney Taylor; 12 great-grandchildren; her care giver, Barbara Ann Bonner; and many other dear relatives and very dear friends.
