Edith I "Edie" Howell-Clarke

Edith I. "Edie" Howell-Clarke, nee McMullen, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023, at the age of 85 in Kingwood, WV. Edith, known for her sunny disposition and firecracker wit, will be remembered most for her unwavering kindness and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Born on December 23, 1937, in Akron, OH, Edith was the beloved daughter of the late Edith Isabell and Ruthven Winfield McMullen. She is survived by her sisters, Mulvina Kennedy and Mildred Ball, and her brothers, George McMullen and Richard McMullen. Edith was predeceased by her husbands, William Phelps and Ian Howell-Clarke, as well as her brothers and their wives, William Blackburn (Beverly), Henry Lambert (Lois), and Edward McMullen (JoAnn).

As the family matriarch, Edith's love for her family knew no bounds. She leaves behind her five daughters, Melody Phelps (Rick Kavooras), Deborah Johnson, Bilyn Bozic, Suan Bean, and Caryn Williams (Earnest Williams). Edith was also blessed with thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to her life.

Edith dedicated over 20 years of her life to Canaan Valley Ski Resort, where she was a cherished and respected employee. Her commitment and passion for her work were evident to all who knew her.

In her free time, Edith enjoyed tending to her garden and caring for anything or anyone she felt needed her attention. She had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and often took long walks, reveling in the beauty of nature.

A service to celebrate Edith's life will be held at 11am on October 14 at First Presbyterian Church, located at 104 E High St, Kingwood, WV 26537.

Edith I. Howell-Clarke will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness, humor, and love for her family will continue to inspire and uplift those whose lives she touched.
