MacINTOSH, Edith I. Died peacefully, at A.R. Goudie Eventide Home, Kitchener, on Thursday, February 5, 2004, at the age of 89 years. Edith was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on October 18, 1914, then moved to Windsor with her family where she lived from 1917-1941. She taught school in Windsor for seven years before moving to Kitchener in 1941. Predeceased by her husband, Lesley MacIntosh in 1998. Survived by her son Cameron R. MacIntosh, granddaughter, Lesley MacIntosh in Ottawa, sister, Margaret Rumble of Barrie, sisters-in-law, Jean Schause and Lorna Rupple, both of Kitchener and brother-in-law, Bert MacIntosh of Kitchener. Predeceased by her parents Robert and Florence Reid, formerly of Windsor and sisters, June Wilcox of California and Mary McLennan of Windsor. Edith was a long time member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Edith served as Alderwoman from 1966-1974, was elected as Kitchener's only woman Mayor for the term 1975-1976. She was the K-W Jaycees Citizen of the Year in 1966 and the K-W Quota Club Women of the Year in 1969. Mrs. MacIntosh served on the Hydro Commission from 1977-1987. She was a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Waterloo, the Wheatridge Foundation, a life member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, a consultant to the Canada Safety Council served on the Ontario Board of Funeral Services and acted as the National President of the Consumers Association of Canada. In 1998, in recognition of her community contribution, her work was honored by renaming the Kitchener Child Care Centre to the Edith MacIntosh Child Care Centre. Edith also enjoyed her time with her family at the cottage at Hope Bay. In addition, Edith was a founding member of the Zonta Club in Kitchener and served and held positions on numerous other committees and boards in the K-W community and area and was always grateful for the opportunity to serve. A warm felt thank you to the management and staff of Pinehaven Retirement Home, Comcare, the doctors and nurses of the fifth floor at Grand River Hospital, as well as the management and staff of the A.R. Goudie Eventide Home. Friends will be received at Westmount Funeral Chapel (1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener 519-743-8900) on Saturday, February 7, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 49 Queen St.N., on Monday, February 9, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. (family will receive friends from 12 noon).
