Edmund "Eddie" Rauh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 1, 2025.
Edmund John Rauh, 84, of Colfax, California, passed away on January 3, 2025.

Eddie was born on August 29, 1940 to John Edmund and Agnes Muriel (Darcy) Rauh in Brooklyn, NY. A proud New Yorker and Marine, he lived a life of adventure, faith and few regrets. He was a free spirit, a natural-born storyteller and a candid, self-reflective thinker. After three years in the Marines, he became a highly-skilled precision sheet metal worker, using his innate ability to produce almost anything with or without blueprints. He handcrafted a large telescope and lens for personal use to study the night sky, and was proud of having his poem, "To the Redwood Tree," published.

Eddie's greatest adventure and "special love" was his wife, Diane. They were married on August 30, 1975 and recently celebrated their 49th anniversary. When asked about his life and greatest loves, Eddie described her as "the center of it all," his "Miss America." Their life together was spent in the Bay Area in San Jose and in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Colfax. They drove to nearly every state in the country and loved each other and their families. Eddie was proud of his fighting spirit and refusal to ever quit, once saying that, "I'll go down swinging and there will be footprints on the inside of my coffin."

Eddie was greatly loved by his family, was a loyal friend, and there for people when they needed him. His devotion to God and the Church was at the core of his existence. He strove to do the best he could, be at peace with himself, and take care of others. The word "no" was nonexistent if someone needed help.

Eddie was predeceased by son, Timothy Nyhan, and sisters, Barbara Bowra and Nancy Clemente. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane, sister Suzanne LoVaglio, children Janice Pennington, Pamela Busby, Kimberlee Reilly, Christina Beard-Ford, Patrick Nyhan, and LaShawn Rivers, grandchildren Matthew Busby, Meagan Busby, Jeffery Beard, Andrew Pennington, Christopher Busby, Joshua Beard, Stephanie Diaz, Haley Busby, Erin Reilly, Joshua Nyhan, Alexander Busby, Aysia Rivers Ulloa, Jayden Rivers, Jacob Nyhan, Aimee Busby, Khylia Rivers, Atticus Nyhan, Miles Nyhan, and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Auburn, CA on February 21, 2025 at 10:30 a.m., and military funeral honors will be held at the Sacramento National Valley Cemetery in Dixon, CA on February 21, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. A celebration of life reception will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Auburn, CA on February 22, 2025 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
