Edna Gertrude Cardwell

Oh how I will miss my Sweet Pea. I had the honor of a lifetime to be able to take care of Edna from the first week she came to Nazareth, until her last 24 hours with us. Edna gave me the laugh I needed to get through the day, the big hug she could tell I needed, or the life lessons I was able to hear from her. Edna, thank you for being such an admirable mother, grandmother, and friend, to me, and my coworkers. I´m so thankful I had the privilege of getting to know you over the past year and a half, but I´m even more grateful I got to take care of you in your final days. Though you had to deal with my terrible singing and catching the tears I dropped, I will forever cherish our last days together.

While my heart has a piece missing, I am eternally thankful for the love and care you gave me. Not a day went by where you didn´t tell me to get home safe, eat dinner, and rest my body. Now it is your turn to eat endless grilled cheeses and mashed potatoes, and rest. Your work on earth is complete, and it is exceptional. I can´t wait until we are reunited in Heaven. I will have my nail polish in hand, ready to get to work! Love you forever, Sweet Pea.

My beloved mother, I miss knowing you are there where I can just pick up the phone and call you like I always did. But , I also know now you are at peace and that gives me comfort and that you are with your family in Heaven.I will spend the rest of my life making you proud to be the person that you worked so hard to raise!!

It was an honor and a blessing to care for Ms. Edna over this past year. In that time, I came to know not only her strength and resilience, but also her incredible zest for life. She was truly the life of the party, full of humor, adventure, and a spark that kept all of us at Nazareth Home on our toes.

Her love of life was matched only by the love she had for her beautiful family. Walking with her through the final phase of her physical journey was a privilege I will always hold close to my heart. Her spirit, bright, bold, and endlessly loving, lives on through each of them, and through all of us who had the honor of caring for her.

Her loss is deeply felt here, but so is the joy of having known her. She touched so many hearts, and her memory will continue to light our days.

Extraordinary is a word to describe my Mother. Don't remember many times when I wasn't in awe of her. She was tough, but she had to be through the years of raising her children, alone. Mom, I miss you more than I can describe. I miss your hair, eyes, kind smile, your honesty. I will miss your hugs & advice. I will miss long talks & your "ahh honeys". I will miss you building me up & making sure I'm ok before ending conversations. I will miss you ALWAYS being there for me. I will miss how every single day you would "fix" yourself up for the day with your scarf, hair combed & ready for one of us to stop by. I will miss "all of us" hovering round you waiting for a turn to hug you & say so long Mom, see you soon... and we will... see you soon Mommie. I will always adore you. Vicki
