Edward "Ed" Bisel

Edward (Ed) Bisel, 88, of Boise, passed away Nov. 25, 2008, at a Boise hospital. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Dry Creek Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, Ustick Chapel.
Ed was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Boise to Theresa and Joseph Bisel. When Ed was an infant, they moved to the Ustick area. Ed began schooling at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Boise and Valley View School. While attending St. Joseph's, he rode the inter-urban trolley to Boise each day. Ed's mother passed away when he was 8 years old.
In 1940, Ed married Hazel Arndt. To this union are three daughters. They later divorced. During WWII, Ed served in the Army in the European Theater of operations in France, Germany, Austria and England. He was discharged in 1945.
Ed began working for Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph Company in 1947. He retired in 1980.
He met and married the love of his life, Eleanore Cullen Smith in 1960. They loved traveling, wintering in Arizona, fishing, playing cards, and just being together. Elly always caught the biggest and most fish and had the best pinochle hands. Elly brought three children into this marriage.
Ed was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Boise Post 63 and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Ed enjoyed his bi-weekly visits with his Pantry "coffee buddies" for the past 15-plus years, cussing and discussing everything from politics to the world conditions. He loved his neighbors, as they loved him. He was the teasing/joking, fun-loving neighbor they all cared about.
He is survived by Myrna Mace of Boise; Geraldine (Ray) Kendrick, of Eugene, Ore.; Marjorie (Charles) Thacker of Maysville, Ga.; Peggy Buchanan of New Plymouth; Ron (Maureen) Smith of Cora, Wyo.; a very special daughter-in-law Delia (Mike) Moore of Nampa; plus 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elly, stepson Tony Smith, son-in-law Denny Buchanan, and grandson Greg Buchanan.
We wish to thank the wonderful nurses and staff on the ninth floor, Central Tower Orthopedic unit at St. Alphonsus Hospital for the outstanding care and compassion given Ed and family members during this time. Also, a special thanks to Dr. David Hassinger.
