Edward G. Borgatti

Edward G. Borgatti, 88, of Feeding Hills, MA, passed away Monday at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born in Feeding Hills on November 2, 1927 to the late Allesmo and Margaret nee Melloni Borgatti. He was a 1946 graduate of Agawam High School where he loved playing football. Later he was proud to play semi pro football for the Agawam Brownies. Edward joined the Navy after graduation from high school. He was on the naval aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Kearsarge as a Seaman first class stationed in the Atlantic. He spent his life serving the Agawam and Feeding Hills community as an Agawam Police Detective, Town Councilor and entrepreneur. He married Stella (Pylypow) in 1954. They were married forty four years before her passing in 1998. Edward joined the Agawam Police department as a patrolman in 1950 and through promotion he became a detective retiring in 1982. In 1986, he fulfilled his dream and opened EB’s restaurant and continued to work there until just last year. He was a 12-year member of the Agawam Town Council. While on the Park and Recreation Committee in 1963, he was responsible for the purchase of land on River Road for a new park that later was named in his honor the Edward G. Borgatti Park. This was a very proud moment in Edward’s life. He will always be remembered for his unselfish acts of kindness bestowed upon family, friends, and members of the community. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter Shelley Borgatti-Reed and husband Doug and his cherished son Edward P. Borgatti and his loving grandchildren Michael E. Reed and Cassie E. Reed. He also leaves his sister Janet White (Richard) of Springfield, and Ronald Borgatti (Sharon) of Cincinnati and his companion, Viola Sliech of Agawam. He was predeceased by his wife Stella, brother Paul, sister Claire, and grandson Kristofer. Ed’s funeral will be held Friday at 8:30 am at the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, Agawam, MA followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills at 10:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow at Springfield Street Cemetery in Feeding Hills, MA. Donations may be made in Edward’s memory to the Recreational Department at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home or to Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills, MA. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 4-8 pm at the Agawam Funeral Home.
