Edward R. Brandt

Wish I could have spent more time with Ed. He had such a wealth of knowledge in German Mennonite history and could always fill in the blanks. My deepest sympathies, Marie, to you and the family.

What an honor it is to read this extraordinarily loving tribute to what was a beyond extraordinary human being. We can all learn from this tireless, focused, compassionate man's life on earth.

I was just looking at a photo of Marie and Ed at our home for an evening with one of our MGS speakers! So sorry to hear of the news of Ed's passing. What a great and interesting life he had.

I remember Ed from early (70s, 80s) organizational meetings dealing with German studies and language. Always pleasant, he was also a humble representative of what is best in academia. His writings will remain a strong witness of his dedication to learning and humanity.

Nancy Altman-Zuber and Del Smith well remember Ed from all the Germanic Interest Group meetings in the 80s and 90s. We were both on the board twenty or so years ago. We appreciate his many contributions to Germanic Genealogy.

On behalf of the Minnesota North Star Chapter - Germans from Russia, please accept our condolences. Edward R Brandt was an early and valued member of our local organization. His legacy as a teacher and researcher will benefit future generations.

Ed was always willing to answer questions and help the beginners. He will be missed. My sympathy to his family.

Edward Brandt provided so much information to those of us that do genealogy. Germanic Genealogy Journal was sold out the first time I attempted to purchase a copy. Now is will play an integral part in my dissertation on genealogy. Mr. Brandt was a truly remarkable individual.
May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Dear Marie and Family: my sincere sympathy.I am sure your loving memories will be a comfort to you at this difficult time.

The genealogy community have lost a great friend. Those of us who "do" German family history research are indebted to him for personal assistence and published sources. Ed will certainly be missed. I know his family must have many good memories to keep him close.

Dear Rose, we've known one another so long and yet I've never really grasped the extent of your dad's passion for life and learning. I'm so glad that I got to read this obituary. It helped me appreciate not only your father but also the gifts he shared with you of mind and heart and the deep love of learning.
