I will never forget Mr. Bryers, my fifth grade teacher at Fishkill Elementary School. He was a gifted teacher and a warm presence in our school. My sympathy to his family.

Ed, you and Dolores were such wonderful neighbors. We shared a lot of memories together. Happy and sad. May you forever RIP.

To the family--I was sorry to read about the passing of Mr. Bryers. He was my principal at Oak for a few happy years. I remember when we asked him about doing something new, he would say," do it until we are told no." You have my deepest sympathy.

"Mr. Bryers" to me --- left an important imprint on my life -- I am a former student from his 6th grade class at Vassar Road School. We all have individuals in our life's journey who filled a positive role - and as an impressionable 11-12 year old he formed a special impact on me --- I later in my career became an elected public official and would therefore come in contact with him around the community - including him inviting me to be a judge for his annual speech competition at the school where he became Principal. It was a special moment for me when he pridefully introduced me to the children and family members attending as a former student of his. Mr. B was a gifted educator with an incredible relationship with students -- this is something I am sure his family knows about him - but I am compelled to tell just one more impression story - although not of his academic teaching talents, somewhat silly, but perhaps something his family can relate to or that will bring a smile to them -- Mr. Bryers loved recess and going outdoors with his students to play kickball and softball, etc -- to this day, I have frozen in my mind the highlight of nearly every softball game with his 11-12 year old students - he was always the pitcher and inevitably a pop fly would come to him as pitcher and he would would catch it behind his back -- of course none of us could do that - but guaranteed for days, weeks, and months thereafter we all went home and tried to catch the ball behind our back "like Mr. Bryers" -- let me close with my sympathies, my heartfelt warmest wishes for a special human being that helped guide many, many young lives. God Bless - William R. Steinhaus, Dutchess County Executive, 1992-2011, retired.
