Edward Dixon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 26, 2022.
Hall of Fame racer, Edward Carl Dixon, 68, a lifelong resident of Washington, passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer, Thursday, October 20, 2022.

He was born March 13, 1954, in Washington, the son of Melvin and the late Wanda (Dupass) Dixon. Growing up, Ed could be found working the family business that he would end up buying from his father in the early '90s, Dixon Motors, a car dealership in Washington.

He enjoyed deer hunting, golfing, water skiing and even a little fishing with the family. Everyone knew that Ed felt the "need for speed,"?because when his parents were heading to the hospital for his birth, his father, Mel, was stopped for speeding. This was just the beginning for young Edward, because when he was old enough, he began racing motorcycles.

Known as one of the greatest dirt track racers to ever come from the St. Louis area, Ed began a career on dirt starting in 1972 and finishing in 2014. He had over 600 career victories, from modifieds, sportsman, Late Model and ARCA series. These wins came from 22 different states. He won three United Midwestern Promoters Championships, Northern All Stars Series Florida Speedweeks Championship, as well as multiple track championships in the St. Louis region. Ed's greatest achievement was his 2004 induction into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame.

Ed is survived by his father, Mel Dixon (Carol), Moore Haven, Florida; his son, Daniel Dixon (Margo), Mansfield, Ohio; his sister, Sharon Jennings (Arthur), Union; and his grandchildren, Eli and Quinn.

Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda, and stepfather, Clinton Coulter.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct 27, at River City Church, 6906 Highway 100, Washington.

A private funeral service for the family will be held Friday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m.
