Edward Salvador Garcia Jr.

Edward "Eddie" Salvator Garcia Jr., Esquire, passed away in his home on November 6, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Eddie was larger-than-life. He cherished his family right to the end. Left to miss his warm smile and effervescent spirit are his mom, Sandra H. Garcia, his brothers: Skip Ledingham (Karen), Carmen and Ricky (Shannon) Garcia and John Rhoads (Lynn), his sisters: Ramona, Angela (Scott Mozer), and Rosa Garcia, Janet Dixon, and Mary Hammontree (James). Eddie also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom he cherished and his longtime assistant and friend to the end, Emily Bertholf. Eddie was predeceased by his father, Edward S. Garcia, Sr. and his mother, Margie Davis Rhoads.

Eddie's career was in law. He attended the University of Virginia for his undergraduate studies as well as for his initial legal training. He then matriculated from both New York University and the University of Miami achieving a Masters of Law in Taxation and Trust and Estate Planning, respectively. Eddie spent over thirty years in private practice in Hampton Roads and South Florida as an entrepreneur and assisting individuals and companies in corporate and estate tax matters, estate planning and complex real estate transactions.

Eddie was passionate about his love of the law but was also passionate about adventure and philanthropy. He traveled the world in some rather unconventional ways. He bicycled across Europe, motorbiked through Mexico, explored by every means available Panama and hiked the mountains of Peru. Eddie eventually obtained Panamanian citizenship. His philanthropy came to the fore when he bicycled down the eastern seaboard, starting in New England, to raise substantial funds for Operation Smile. That trip profoundly affected his life as it magnified his faith in humanity due to the outpouring of kindness he experienced from complete strangers who embraced him and welcomed him into their homes along the way. As should be evident, Eddie was an avid humanist and enthusiast of active sports all of his life. On any given day he could be found running, swimming, biking, and playing tennis. Eddie was a competitor and active member of the Princess Anne Country Club and Cavalier Yacht Club.

The family thanks Drs. Park and Alberico as well as Becky Podray and Eddie's "care team" for their compassion, care and concern.

Following a private service and internment in the family mausoleum, the family will host a Celebration of Life for family and friends at Princess Anne Country Club, 3800 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach on November 17, 2022 from 3-5 PM. Funeral arrangements are being handled by HD Oliver Funeral Apts. Laskin Road Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YMCA for their swimming program, where Eddie volunteered and taught hundreds of children to swim over the years, or to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at hdoliver.com
