Edward Groth Jr.

The passing of Ed Groth is such a huge loss. He was a larger than life man and an incredible boss. Before you had even proven anything to him, he would look you in the eye and let you know that he trusted you to do your job. As you witnessed the way he handled his personal and professional life, you knew that he was naturally and almost effortlessly setting some very high standards. In his own quiet way, he drove everyone around him to be better people.

Ed Groth was a well respected leader in the business, a visionary, and someone that I had great admiration for. He was also a mentor to me during my 22 years at Groth. He was a unique individual because he truly cared about his employees and their families. I will greatly miss him.

I was truly blessed to be able to work with Ed Groth. His concern was always for the employees of his business and that concern won Ed the respect of all of his employees. This world is a better place due to Ed’s present.

Ed Groth was a good friend, a great leader, and a great person who made so many people's lives better. Those of us who were fortunate to know and work so closely with Ed are left with many wonderful memories and are so much better off for the experience. Ed's passing leaves a void that will be difficult to fill.



My heart goes out to the Groth family.

I feel honored to have had the opportunity to work for Mr. Groth at his former Geismar facility for the last 11 years. My prayers and thoughts are with his family in their time of need. He was a truly honorable man and he was also so funny, I never knew that about him, when we had his retirement celebration I saw that side of him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will be with me always.

Ed Groth was a big man in my life. We hunted, fished, and celebrated life together on many occasions. I feel very fortunate and proud to have had him as a Godfather. He teaches through example and the lessons he taught me have been many.



Uncle Ed, I just want to tell you that I love you dearly and will miss your physical presence, but your spirit will continue to live on in me and those around me.



Aunt Betty, Carl, Mary Ann, and Alison, I grieve for your loss and send you all the love I have to help fill the void that has been left with Ed's passing.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ed Groth. Mr. Groth was a visionary in the valve industry and he made Groth Corporation a wonderful place to work. Ed made his employees want to work hard and earn his admiration. There is a celebration in heaven today.

Through his examples, Mr. Groth taught us to help others. His legacy lives on through many.

I have been very fortunate to have been employed with Groth for almost eight years and I can proudly say that Mr. Ed Groth stands head over heels (literally, as well) over the many "major players" that have made this industry what it is today. He is one of the most well-respected businessmen in our industry and it is amazing to me how many lives he has touched over the years in "my" area of the business; that being south Louisiana. I can only imagine his reputation in the Houston area. It is obvious after reading the article in the Houston Chronicle that his reputation speaks for itself. I would like to send my deepest sympathies to Mrs. Groth and the family members and will keep all of you in my prayers. I can be proud of the fact that I knew Ed and that I tried to represent what he stood for in business. Dee Richard.

My heart is saddened at the news of the passing of Ed Groth until I consider the legacy he has left behind. A smile returns when I think of his smile. I am so proud to have known him and to have been a part of his Groth family for 14 years. Praying God's comfort and strength for those he loved most.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Groth family for your recent loss. I enjoyed many lunches with Ed over the past several years and through those discussions I learned a great deal. I will miss him.

Every time you met up with Ed, you could just feel the energy and exuberance he displayed. I always walked away feeling uplifted after our visit. He was one of a kind.

My father "Chayo" worked at Groth for many years. Very young at the time, I clearly remember meeting Mr. & Mrs. Groth at several of the company picnics. Even went fishing with him and my dad once. Our family albums contain several pictures of my dad, brother Raymond, and Mr. Groth out at sea. A kind hearted and respected man, will be missed by many. From our hearts to yours, God Bless. The thing I remember most about Mr. Groth was his kind heart and gentle nature. I am proud to say I worked for Mr. Groth, it has been a privilege. My heart felt condolences to his family.

Ed Groth was a person that had a major impact on many people’s lives. I was fortunate to be included in this group. A friend and mentor who always went out of his way to lend support , helping to accelerate my career and ultimately provide encouragement to act on my own entrepreneurial aspirations.

It was sad to read of Mr. Groth's passing. My stepdad, Deacon Jones, worked for Groth Equipment from 1963 to 1973. He thought a great deal of Mr. Groth. My sympathy and thoughts are with you all.

I worked for Ed Groth for 17 years. He inspired me so much at our first meeting, a couple of months after I was hired, that for the rest of all those years, my goal was to do the best job I could do for him. He said, “It’s not my company, it’s our company,” and he showed by example that he meant it. Mr. Groth was a man of great character, charisma, and compassion, and with a few words and the gentle expression on his face, he could make all of us believe that we were indeed capable of accomplishing the challenges that were presented to us. He did it by making us believe that he believed in us. My heart goes out to Betty and Carl and the rest of the Groth family, and to all of the Groth Corporation “family” who loved and respected Ed Groth. As much as he will be missed by all the people he touched, I can only believe that Heaven will be a better place with him in it.

Ed Groth was truly an innovator, sportsman and above all, an exceptional person. His demeanor was such that his kindness, wit, personality, humor and wisdom truly affected those who were around him. He will be sorely missed by all. Special condolences to the entire Groth family, in particular, Betty, Carl and Kathy.

Ed Groth was larger than life to a young man just breaking into the valve sales game in 1977. He was always supportive of my efforts and I will never forget him. He truly will be missed by all in the valve business and anyone that knew him well.

It has already been said but it bears repeating, Ed was a big man. Big in size, big in heart and spirit. I'll miss him for his wisdom, friendship and stories. If you've heard the "Northwoods bear story," yes, Ed did chase down the bear to retrieve a food pack. I was there.

Ed Groth was more than a business associate, he was also a special friend who Joan and I had the pleasure of knowing. Our condolences to Betty & the family.

My memory of Ed Groth is of a person that truely loved life. He was certainly an intense focused individual who enjoyed life to its fullest. Whether he was fishing, goose hunting, arm wrestling, or fixing and selling valves, he always wanted to finish first. He was a true leader and will be missed.
