Edward Guest Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 5, 2024.
Edward Lee Guest, age 75, of Atlanta, GA, passed away on January 1, 2024. He was born on November 27, 1948, in Atlanta, GA, to Hiram Elijah Guest, Sr. and Gladys Martin Guest. Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Eugene, George, Hiram Jr., James, Julia, John, Thomas, Ronald, and Jerry Guest.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Diane Kay Robertson Guest. He will be deeply missed by his sons, Joel Courtney Guest (Jennifer) and Christopher Collie Guest (Ashton), as well as his cherished grandchildren: Avery Guest, Allison Guest, Abigail Guest, Joshua Clark, Andrew Guest, and Elizabeth (Liddy) Guest. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ed attended Russell High School in East Point, GA. He then furthered his education at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, CA. Following his education, he proudly served in the United States Army for 10 years and continued his service in the Reserves for an additional 4 years. During his military career, Ed held various roles, including Special Agent in the US Army Criminal Investigative Division, Sharpshooter, and Military Working Dog Handler. He ultimately achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6).

After his military service, Ed pursued a career dedicated to Public Safety. He served with the Santa Monica Police Department, East Point Fire Department, Dekalb County Police Department, Smyrna Police Department, and worked as the evening security supervisor for the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.

Ed was an active member of his community and had a strong faith. He worshipped at Rock Spring Presbyterian Church and after its closure, at Saint Martin Lutheran Church.

In his free time, Ed enjoyed genealogy, being a 32nd degree Master Mason and Past Master of Metro Daylight Lodge, participating in the Dekalb Memorial Club and National Sojourners, being a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Yaarab Shrine Temple, and was a member of the 29th Infantry Division Association.

He was called Honey, Officer, Brother, Bo, Worshipful Master, Special Agent, Sir, and Sergeant, but his favorite title was Poppy!

A Memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 2 p.m. at Heritage Preparatory School (formerly Rock Spring Presbyterian Church), located at 1824 Piedmont Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA 30324. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 10, Stone Mountain, GA, in honor of Ed's memory. Your contribution will support their noble mission and honor Ed's unwavering commitment to justice and the well-being of others.

Edward Lee Guest will forever be remembered as a humble servant of God, a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished grandfather, and a loyal friend. His presence touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy inspire us to embrace faith, love, and service in our own lives.

While I did not know or ever work with Ed personally, I knew him by reputation as an effective, well-respected officer who had a good career at DKPD with his contributions to the agency and community during his time. Condolences and prayers to his family for their loss. They should take pride in his years of service.

I am saddened to hear of Mr. Guest passing. I only knew him for a short time, but seeing Mr. Guest´s face light up when he talked about his granddaughter was heartwarming. We both chuckled watching her prance around with her sunglasses on. I will miss his positive disposition and his sweet face.

I am so so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Guest. It was a true honor and joy to be able to meet him. Mr Guest always had a big smile and I really loved being able to get to know him through his stories. I learned so much about his lovely family he was so proud of and of course his dedicated life of service. I am sorry for his families loss of a truly special man. He has clearly touched the lives of so many and his memory will live on in many hearts
