I still think frequently and lovingly of my Dad, Ed. It is fun to share anecdotes about him with his great-grandchildren.

We are very proud to have known him and we could attend his 100-year-birthday-party in 2009. It was a great pleasure for us, that he visited his German family with his wife Jane two times.

Over the years I had heard a great deal about Ed Halbach (my mom's first cousin) and his part in gathering information for the Bissen book. What I didn't know was that he was so gifted in so many areas as noted in the obituary that was in the Stacyville newspaper. What a great legacy he leaves. And now his good works have earned him eternal rest in heaven.
I extend my condolences to the family.

To the Halbach Family,
I was very sorry to hear of Ed's death. Thfa miltye loss of a parent is never easy. As I wrote to Ed after Jane's passing, the measure of their success was in the family they raised.
Ed taught me much of what little I know
of being "handy". Most of this was "on the job" training and I confess that Ed was not always the easiest person to work with - but the job was always done right.

I remember Uncle Ed describing travels to study lunar eclipses and treasure a lovely music box, a gift from Sorrento, brought back from such a trip. The occasion of his passing with the "perigee moon, a full moon of rare size and beauty" is remarkably appropriate. I'd like to think of his soul "rising in the east at sunset" along with that moon. I thank Ed and Jane for their many kindnesses. Susan

I was fortunate to have been a classmate of Richard's at Alverno College Elementary School, Milwaukee. I fondly remember our visits to the observatory and just how absolutely awesome it was to have a Dad like Mr. Halbach! His explanations of what we saw those evenings were unlike anything I had heard before. My sincere sympathy to each of you. Thanks for sharing your Dad with us.

To the "Halbach kids" and family. I am truly sorry for your loss. May God bless you all. It's hard to look at the stars and constellations without thinking of your father. He taught us all so much. I especially remember the day spent at the Observatory planting fir trees. And also recall spending time over the kitchen table looking at maps of the constellations. Your dad helped to make our neighborhood the wonderful place it was to grow up in.
