Edward Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 24 to Feb. 25, 2023.
Edward Lee Johnson, aka "Pappi", 78, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away in his home on the 19th of February, 2023 after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by love from his wife and children. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, William and Edna Johnson, as well as his older brothers William Arthur "Bill" Johnson and Earl Fredrick "Fred" Johnson. He is survived by his wife Lesli Appleby, his children Rob Williams, Preston Johnson, and Shannon Johnson, his brother David Allen Johnson and sister Rhea Carlene Johnson, and his daughter-in-law, Janelle Williams, and grandson, Dylan Williams.

Ed was born on December 16th, 1944 to William Oscar Johnson and Edna Mae (Hayslett) Johnson in Richmond, Indiana. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1971, Ed moved to Dallas, Texas where he would meet his future wife, Lesli Frances Appleby.

Ed and Lesli were married on October 11, 1980 and had two children together, Preston Edward Johnson and Shannon Elizabeth Johnson. In addition to the two children Ed shared with Lesli, he had a son, Robert Douglas Williams, from a previous relationship, whom he was blessed and honored to get to know after many years of separation. He remained close to all three of his children until he departed.

In 2008, Ed retired from a lifetime of manual labor and found a love for disc golf in his spare time. He shared this passion with Preston and his "golf buddies" and quickly created a circle of friends who all loved and looked-up to him.

Pappi was adored and respected by his large family and the countless people he "adopted" over the years, comprised mostly of Preston's and Shannon's friends. He was a strong and capable man with a gentle heart and the driest of dry senses of humor. He was the product of a generation of doers and could fix absolutely anything. Not a single person who had the privilege to know him has been left without lessons learned and hours of laughter shared.

True to his nature of sharing his knowledge and experience with everyone around him, Ed's final act was to donate his body to science, so that even in death, people will continue to learn from him. A Remembrance will be held at the Point After North in Flower Mound, Texas on Saturday, March 4, 2023. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations be made in his name to his local animal rescue, "Humane Tomorrow", or to World Central Kitchen-feeding communities in need around the world.

He was one of the kindest and sweetest men I've ever known. I was always blessed to see him and adored him like family. God has called another angel home. I pray to be in his circle when my time has come.

Uncle Eddie will be greatly missed, I enjoyed visiting with him on his trips to Indiana and making peanut butter fudge for him. Lesli, Rob, Preston, & Shannon, you are in my thoughts.

I will always cherish the memories of the times I got to spend with my father-in-law Eddie. We didn't get as many opportunities to spend time together as some. However, he always made me special when I was around. Eddie will be missed. Till we meet again in heaven. Hugs!
