Edward Matlock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 24 to Mar. 25, 2017.
Edward (Ed) Matlock March 3,1922 - March 20, 2017 Edward (Ed) Matlock, patriarch of our family, passed away peacefully at age 95 on March 20, 2017 in Regina, Saskatchewan after a full and fun life.

Coming into the world during a prairie spring blizzard March 3, 1922 on the family homestead near Outlook, Saskatchewan forged a man who always saw life as fun and an exciting challenge. At 19, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII, and served from 1941-1945 on convoy escort during the Battle of the Atlantic. This strengthened his appreciation and love of life. He continued his ties with the military through the Legion and enjoyed happy hours and dancing with his wife of 68 years, Vi, at his side. Ed's passion was sports, especially baseball, golf, curling, and hockey. He never let the competition get in the way of the comradery. Throughout his long career with Federated Co-op, he made friends wherever he worked. Once retired, you could find Ed golfing, watching the Blue Jays or Riders or building/fixing a deck, fence, garage, furniture, plumbing, or electrical for his friends or family from Regina to Vancouver Island. He knew enough about all the trades to build or fix anything. He loved to exercise his snow blower on the sidewalks and neighbours driveways.

Ed's true love was Vi and his extended family whom he was so proud of.

Ed was predeceased by Vi (2016) and his eight siblings. Ed is survived by Bob (Kathy), Bryan (Rosita), Darlene (Paul), Doreen (Terry), and Cheryl. Grandpa Ed was adored by his 16 grandchildren Mac and Ali, Jonathan (Sandy), Courtney (Darcy), Bob (Rebecca), David, Jen, Andrea, Tracey (Bryce), Teagan, David (Kate), Michael, Logan (Roxy), Tucker (Isabel), Daryl (Jill), Candice (Matthew) and 12 great grandchildren Maddie, Dallin, Jocelyn, Reagan, Hayden, Carter, Ellie, Max, Ben, Amelia, Ryder and Ethan.

Ed had no regrets, always tried to make every situation better, and lived by his motto, "if you are handed a lemon, make lemonade". His positive outlook on life and laugh were infectious. He will be missed by many.

Our family is grateful to the staff at the Veterans Care ward of Wascana Rehabilitation Centre and Red Cross workshop for the kindness and care they gave to Ed.

A Celebration of Ed's Life will be held at later date to be announced. Flowers are most gratefully declined. Donations in Ed's memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.

The Mader family's thoughts are with the entire Matlock family. Ed was a kind and generous man and hardy laugh and vest for life will be greatly missed. I know my parents Ron and Edna cherished their friendship with Ed and Vi. We hope your many memories bring you some consort during this difficult time.
