Edward Mckay Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 11, 2023.
Edward Martin Mckay, known affectionately as "Speedy," passed away on November 9, 2023, at the age of 67 in Portland, Maine. He was born on March 11, 1956, in Brooklyn, New York. Edward was a hardworking and generous individual, devoted to his family and friends. His loved ones remember him as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Edward had a passion for fishing, hunting, and tending to his vegetable garden. He found joy in cooking and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Despite facing health challenges, including two kidney transplants, Edward remained resilient and bounced back with strength.

Professionally, Edward worked as a salesman of produce and mushrooms at Katzman Produce in Hunts Point Market, Bronx, NY. His dedication to his work and his customers was evident in his interactions.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Mckay, and his children Ryan, Tracy and Morgan. Also leaves behind his son-in-law Tyler Lacorata. Edward was a proud grandfather to Liam and Riley McKay, Eleanor and Hudson Lacorata. He had a close bond with his nephew Jesse Hallock and his girlfriend Jenna Cole, as well as his niece Adrianna Wisch and niece Elizabeth Ryan. Edward is also survived by his brother-in-law Joe Ryan, sister-in-law Lois Ryan, sister-in-law Theresa MacDonald, brother-in-law Scott MacDonald, and mother-in-law Rhoda Ryan.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Edward Martin Mckay and Joan Elaine McKay, as well as his sister Susan McKay. He also mourned the loss of his father-in-law George Joseph Ryan and brother-in-law George Joseph Ryan Jr.

Edward received his education at Burns Ave Elementary School and Hicksville High School. He later pursued higher education at Sullivan County Community College.

A memorial service to celebrate Edward's life will be held sometime in summer 2024. Details regarding the service will be announced at a later date.

Edward Martin Mckay, known as "Speedy" to his friends, will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of hard work, kindness, and love for his family and friends will forever be cherished.

We had the pleasure of having Eddie and his family for 33 years as neighbors and friends. When we 1st moved in Eddie was there to give his advice on how to care for our shrubs since we were new homeowners and had no experience in gardening. He was very knowledgeable and was quick to lend us any tools we needed. He would also from time to time bring us home produce from the Bx terminal market. My thoughts and prayers are with Patty and his beautiful family at this time.

Love,

The Marchesi Family
