Edward Murray Obituary

Rev. Edward Francis Murray, OMI, born in New York, NY on June 13, 1913 to John Murray and Margaret Roddy, died at the Oblate Madonna Residence on January 3, 2003. Fr. Murray is survived by two brothers, Steve and Tom Murray and several nieces and nephews. Fr. Murray attended grade school at St. Michaels in New York. He entered the novitiate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Mission, TX on July 15, 1931. He completed studies in philosophy and theology at DeMazenod Scholasticate (Oblate School of Theology) and was ordained a priest by Bishop Draesserts on June 4, 1937 at St. Mary's Church, San Antonio. His first assignment was at St. Mary's Church in Brownwood. He served in parishes in Texas, New Mexico, Mexico D.F. and Louisiana. Following certification in Clerical Pastoral Education he became chaplain at V.A. hospitals in Knoxville, Iowa and New Orleans, Louisiana. In November 1989, he began reduced active ministry at St. Mary's Church and Baptist Memorial Hospital. He moved to Oblate Madonna Residence, the retirement home for Oblate priests in 1997 where he became involved in ministry at the Shrine of the Lourdes Grotto. Services include Rosary Vigil on Sunday, January 5, 2003 at 7:00 P.M. at the Immaculate Conception Memorial Chapel, 285 Oblate Drive. Mass of the Resurrection: Monday, January 6, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Interment will follow at Oblate Cemetery. Arrangements by The Angelus Funeral Home.
