Edward Strauss Oppenheimer

Edward Strauss Oppenheimer, of La Quinta, born Oct. 18, 1934, to Helen and Milton Oppenheimer in New York City, died Sunday, July 27, 2014. Edward had lived in the Bay Area for more than 30 years with his family, wife Marion, son Steven and daughter Gayle. He and his wife of more than 52 years, moved to La Quinta in 2002. A true Renaissance man, Edward was an avid San Francisco 49er fan and a World Soccer enthusiast. He loved the San Francisco Symphony, and was also a supporter of the ballet and opera. He was active in several Coachella Valley bridge and poker groups, and was a member of the Monday Breakfast Group for Men. He spent his youth between El Paso, Texas and New York. He graduated from Mamaroneck High School and from Colgate University with a master's degree in history. He was a sales and marketing executive within the high tech industry in Silicon Valley and opened his own consulting firm in the 1980s. He traveled and worked throughout Europe, Asia and South America. When not on a business trip, he and his wife traveled all over the world. Besides his wife, daughter, son and son-in-law, Michael Rydzewski, he leaves three grandchildren, DeAndre McLish, Rico and Rachel Smith and two great-grandchildren, Rico Jr. and London Dior. Edward was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and father-in-law to his family. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Colgate Athletic Council of Colgate University.
