Edward Palin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 15, 2023.
Ed Palin, 76, of Sangerville, passed in grace at Northern Light EMMC on Nov. 5, 2023.

Born April 22, 1947, in South Boston, he was the son of the late Israel and Anne (Looney) Palin.

After high school graduation, Ed enlisted in the Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam where he was assigned to the SeaBees, MCB58. After an honorable discharge and years of struggling with the wounds of war, sobriety was the catalyst that brought Ed to Maine. One of his greatest achievements was the 42 years of sobriety he would have celebrated this holiday season.

He began his post military career with a Class III wastewater treatment license and worked several years as a lab tech. After moving to Maine, Ed worked in the human services field as a direct care provider for several agencies. He later became a licensed substance abuse counselor.

He was a hospice volunteer, an avid weightlifter and an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for many years.

Ed's passions included recovery, family, home and gardens, the outdoors, watercolor painting, coin collecting and his belief in God's plan for each of us.

He will be remembered as "Bubba" by his grandchildren Karlie and Hunter Walter, for his incredible sense of humor, his kind and generous spirit and loving heart. He was always willing to extend a helping hand to anyone in need and loved offering opportunities for exploring art processes and supplies.

He is survived by his wife, Terri; their daughter, Ashley and husband Russell Estes of Guilford; daughter Shauna Palin of Massachusetts; grandchildren Karlie and Hunter Walter of Guilford, and Emma Palin of Vermont; a sister, Joyce Politis of Greenfield, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives, close friends and special caregivers.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Maryanne Dixon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local hospice. A small intimate celebration of life will be held in the spring or summer of 2024

I personally did not know Ed. I have heard many wonderful stories about him and how great a man he was. He Loved his Family And all his friends. I wished that I had met him and listened to his stories. My goes out to Terry as she goes day by day to cherish all her sweet memory's.

I was blessed to have Ed as a friend. I met him through my job, and I'm so very happy that I did. He impressed me so much with his positive attitude. He had been through terrible things in his military service, yet he survived the grief and horror that he endured during those times. We had a routine every morning when I arrived. We had coffee together (and doughnuts of course!) and watched our favorite "Just for Laughs" videos on YouTube. It was so good to see him laugh! Sometimes it was hard to get my work done because he would say "Don't worry about that, relax and take it easy." Being there and helping Ed was the only time I felt relaxed and at peace. When my husband died Ed was so sympathetic. He helped me a lot to get through the pain. He could have made a million dollars as a counselor, his life experiences made him so kind and understanding. He had bad days like anyone else, of course. I always told him he was a true inspiration to me. I hope he believed that. He always spoke so lovingly of his family, they meant so much to him. He was a good friend. I never had a brother, but if I could choose one I would have picked him.

Ed will be fondly remembered by all of us in the DF area AA. He was wise and caring...and super funny, too! Our summer gatherings at Sugarloaf for annual Round Ups will forever be times I'll remember. Rest in peace, Ed. You are loved.
