Dearest Cousins,

We offer our deepest sympathies to you all on the homegoing of your father. He was an incredible individual and always so kind, loving, and thoughtful to us. The tribute to him in the services on Saturday were so beautiful and fitting, and I am sure he is well pleased. He was so very Christ-like and in that regard will serve as an inspiration to us forever. He lived life as it should be lived! And now, he, though absent from the body, is present with our Lord. May that be a comfort and joy to you all in the days ahead.

With much love,

Choral rehearsal at the Elementary School in Lake Nebagamon first thing after breakfast in the morning. "Ajde Jano" my favorite. Thank you Mr. Sambol for some wonderful memories. I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend four years of the month of August mornings. What a full and wonderful life you have led bringing the joy of music to so many.

Dear Sambol Family,

My heartfelt condolences on the loss of your dear father. He was an icon in the Tamburitzan lore of my generation, and a dedicated and serious musician. You were blessed to have him as your father.

Michael, Anita, and Sambol family,

I was saddened to hear the news of your Dad's passing. So many good memories of Mr. and Mrs. Sambol growing up with you, Mike, while at St. Nicholas School. I'll also never forget the many midnight Masses at Christmas, playing my prim -- amazing how he always knew it was me playing the wrong note! When I moved away from Pittsburgh, it was so comforting for me to come home to St. Nicholas and hear him play the organ and sing at Sunday Mass. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

I remember Ed and Teresa well from St Nicholas school. They were always so helpful and came to all our fundraisers. Such nice people, I know you are missing them both.

Mr. Sambol was my Orchestra teacher at West Liberty Grade School in the 70's. I did not continue to play when I left his tutilage, but the many classes of him playing the entertainer for us on the out of toon piano are some of my fondest memories of grade school. He was a great teacher and I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Mr. Sambol will always be a meaningful part of my life. As I grew up playing violin in the Tamburitzan Community, he would pull me aside to coach and encourage me... frequently giving me sheet music, extra strings and even a few bows. It was his greatest gift that I will always cherish; my first violin that I would be able to call my own. I have used it throughout High School in the Jr Tammies, with the Duquesne University Tamburitzans and it still remains a treasure today. His graciousness and kindheartedness has touched so many over the years; his memory and friendship will be cherished always. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grief.

Very Sincerely and Respectfully,

September 22, 2010

Our deepest condolences to the Edward Sambol family, and may the love of those around you help you through the days ahead. We have known Ed and been blessed with his friendship for over 55 years. Ed thrilled audiences with his musical choral compositions with the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, was highly respected as the stalwart rock of the Alumni of the Duquesne University Tamburitzans, excelled as a superb music teacher and administrator with the Pittsburgh Public schools, and delighted parishioners as organist and musical director at St. Nicholas Church in Millvale, Pennsylvania. With Ed's passing, our world is significantly diminished, and he will be greatly missed but forever remembered.

Dearest Michael, Anita, Carol, Michele, Evelyn, Jim and John:

Our heartfelt sympathies to each of you in the loss of your kind and beloved father and to Gerry and Alice in the loss of your brother. Please know that each of you are in our petitions to Our Blessed Mother to grant you strength during the difficult days that lie ahead.

As your family mourns its great loss, know that you are not alone. As a professor and talented musician, your father brought great joy to so many through his love of music. Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve at St. Nicholas in Millvale readily comes to mind. Walter Savage Landor said that “"Music is God's gift to man, the only art of Heaven given to earth, the only art of earth we take to Heaven." How blessed we all were to have your father bring ‘God’s gift to us,’ and most assuredly know that now he takes this art with him to Heaven. Peace be with all of you.
