Dear Eddie & Jim - When you called, we were on a driving trip west and did not know about your Dad until May 23rd - have been trying to reach you ever since. We are so very sorry. Your Dad was a good friend and a great guy and we have been saddened by your loss. Our world is smaller because he's not here. Please accept our heart-felt condolences. Love from Peter and Mary Jane

My life has been enriched by having known "Big Ed" and working with him during the Fokker F100 days. I wish the family strength in their grief and courage to continue with life. Ed is just "asleep" for a short while, we shall all see each other again in the resurrection.

Dear Son Jim, Kristen & daughter Sandy. Plz accept our (along with my wife, Alberta) Deepest Sympathies on the death of Ed. Is the age of 64 correct as listed as I thought he was almost as old as I?(77!) Plz bear with me as I relate a few facts, etc . as I seem to go a long way back - having lived in one part of the Slomka duplex at 310 East 19th Avenue 'waaay back in the early 1930s - when I was 5 or 6 years old! Your Great-Grandma Slomka once saved me from losing my right arm - thanks to an accident with other children I'd like to relay to you another time. I well remember Wally, Gertrude and THE 'original' Ed Slomka! And, how well I remember YOUR Dad! He, wud you blv, once worked alongside me for TWA at ol' Allegheny County Airport! That had to be between 1947 and 1950-something? Before I run out of space - 'Bert' & I, blv in 1985, were rtng from ZRH (Zurich)to JFK and after an 8 hour + flight we encountered a terrible Summer storm on arrival the JFK area. Which made us miss our TWA flt to PIT. So, being NRSAs, we got a RR on AL to PIT. YOUR DAD, Bless him, was the Capt. on the Allegheny flight that brought us to PIT - but, that ol' son-of-a-gun, upon seeing ME - yelled over the plane's PA system "will Mr/s. Schotting please keep their muddy feet off our seats!!!!" This startling announcement embarrassed us - but brought a LOT of chuckles from the regular passengers! "Praise Be" that no one really knew us! Just thought I'd relay this to you kids - and I WOULD like hearing from you via E - or 'phone me at 412/787-2079. Yes, we had 'close ties' with the Slomkas of those years! Lastly, I've been retired from TWA (no longer TWA!) since 01 November 1983 and still live here in Robinson Twp. Good ol' Homestead and WEST Homestead (were we lived many years) holds lots of good & bad memories! My sister Marlene and brother 'Skeets' still live there.
Thanks for listening or reading - excuse any typos ... Ed was quite a guy!
Sincere Regards - Ed Schotting

From your fellow-classmate, Homestead Hgh School, 1956, my condolences and sympathy to the family. I know he will be greatly missed. Thanks to Ed, I learned something about the Civil Air Patrol and went on to join the Air Force right after graduation. Our class will miss you.
