Mary & family,

I hope you see this as it's been a while since Eddie died. We just found out as my Mother passed away on Dec. 31 and Aunt Suz told us. No one let us know or we would have definitely come to see you. Our prayers are with you. Eddie was such fun.

Love,

My sympathies to the Stewart Family who lost a beloved husband and father, and to the Borough of Crafton, who lost a respected community leader. The greatness of his legacy will not only be in what he built during his lifetime, but in how well we soldier on without him.

Dear Mary,

I was very saddened to learn of Ed's passing and extend my deepest sympathy to you and your family. Ed's devotion to duty, his patriotism, and the warmth of his friendship and outreach greatly inspired me during my FBI career and beyond. When Ed walked through the office, his smile, enthusiasm, and U.S. Marine “can-do” attitude provided an instant morale boost. I know the blessings of this outstanding man will continue to find expression in the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom Ed and you so lovingly nurtured, as well as through the great circle of friends to whom Ed endeared himself. I am deeply grieved that you and your family suffered this great loss and send my dearest thoughts and sympathy to you all.

Dear Stewart Family,

Rarely are we in the presence of someone admirable like Ed Stewart.

It was my honor and pleasure to have known Ed and worked alongside of him on Crafton Council. Crafton was lucky to have him as its leader and moral compass for so many years. We will miss Ed deeply.

Larry Dunn, former Allegheny County Commissioner

November 14, 2011

To the Stewart Family,

I was very sorry to hear that Ed had passed away. He was one of the most honorable gentlemen that I have ever had the privilege to know.

When I became Chairman of the Allegheny County Board of Commissioners in 1996, one of the first appointments I had the opportunity to make was nominating Ed, then the Mayor of Crafton, to the Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Allegheny County. He served in that role with great honor and distinction, always standing up against the vested interests, and voting for what was best for the people of Allegheny County.

I truly regret that I cannot pay my respects in person, but after delivering the eulogy at my Mother's Funeral on October 15, I tripped while stepping down from the podium. My left hip was shattered when I landed on the Alter, and I am currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

My thoughts and prayers are with Ed at this time.
